Hi Air Sally

Very interesting build thread!!! Sorry about the lack of comments, but Im currently participating in the Scale Build Off and are quite busy building and posting n the Scale aircraft forum. As a Dane the Swedish planes have always been of great interest to me. Especially the D-35 Draken has a big place in my heart. As a kid I used to live 10 km from a military area where Drakens often made simulated bomb runs. Often they would fly very low just over the house.

Later around 1980 I spent a week at the airbase at Karup where two squadrons of Drakens where stationed at that time as an introduction to the plane mechanic education. Got a very good look at several Drakens in the maintenance hangars. Even got to stand just next to the tail of a Draken which had its motor tested after a major rebuild. If I had stretched my arm out I could have fried my hand in the jet exhaust - I was that close. Quite an experience for a 15 year old kid I can still recall the trembeling of the body...

One of the things I noticed about the Draken back then was the trailing edge of the wings. Normally the trailing edge is sharp, but on the Draken it ends very abruptly with the skin protruding a bit further. As I recall the thickness of the trailing edge at the root was something like 8-10 cm. It looked just like someone had forgotten to install a flap I asked one of the mechanics about the shape of the trailing edge and he told me that it was like that because it was supposed to create vortexes... Acording to him the Draken was nothing like other fighter jets...

Well, best of luck to both Claus and you. I look forward to a succesfull maiden and hopefully a short kit of this lovely model.

thanks for the stories and comments if you can see in the pics i left my Trailing edges blunt too. the Draken has very simple struct. and making the TE that way was easier and adds the vortex's too . we have some Danish Drakens Flying at Mojove Test pilot school just 20 miles from my house, and i get to see them fly now and then .

well C/N came over to ck on the Draken .....he was inpressed with the effux and thrust made with the little inlets ....we think the long inlet is causeing some very fast velocity of incoming air ...and the long run give the air time to straighten out ...you can feel it sucking air from several inches in front of the ducts just a few odds and ends left, battery platform and hold down and the nose gear axle and tape up the hatches and tail cone for the madien . ...weather is windy here
