Catching on gossip. Who owns what now?

Hi,

I recently ordered a GP US+ from Omnimodels, and someone at Hobbico
completed the order! Not only that, the order was shipped from Nevada,
not from Champaign!

Can someone fill me in on the food chain in the hobby business?

Does Tower owns Kyosho, Hobbico, Horizon, Great Planes etc, or is it
Hobbico owns Omnimodels, Great Planes TopFlite etc..

Are they all the same company?

Re: Catching on gossip. Who owns what now?

refer to the country lists at Alan's Hobby Web Links
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~atong/ especially USA.

http://www.bestrc.com/
http://www.gpmd.com/product.html
http://www.hobbies.net/index.html

Have noticed many items sold in USA under big brand labels are purchased off
shore and sold under several different labels within USA. Also interesting
to hear how great one item appears to one person but the identical item
under separate packaging may be rubbished by that same person.

Close, Jim, but off a tad...

HOBBICO, Inc. is the mother of the whole wad. Great Planes Model Mfg. &
Great Planes Model Dist. falls in line with your list, plus many smaller
entities such as Hobby Services.

Hobbico is the parent company. They own and operate Great Planes,
Hobbico, Top Flite, DynaFlite, Hobby Services, Tower Hobbies, and Omni
Models. They are the exclusive distributors in the continental USA for
Futaba, OS, Super Tigre, and Kyosho.

Does not Hobbico/GP now own the Super Tigre unit itself?

So what company does Hobbico/Tower/etc own in Nevada, I hesitate to
ask?

How is it that Hobbico can do this without Dept of Justice cracking
down through Antitrust glasses?

They own a warehouse in Nev. There is no antitrust in that. Many companies
own distribution points in several states.

There is lots of competition in the RC business. NO anti trust there. You
should try to supply a small business with bread in Texas! I have already
been paid an anti-trust settlement by my bread company and cannot BEG
another supplier to bring me bread. he he, got my dander up on that one...

Gang,

Now this is certainly a coup for Hitec! There likely will be some
interesting developments coming out of this acquisition.
