He 162 Salamander in Depron
Hi fellow modellers..
Fairly new here, but trying anyway.
Right now IŽm building a profile model of the Heinkel 162 Salamander.
Materials are all depron, 5 & 3 mm sheets.
My intentions is to use a GWS EDF 50 as powerplant together with elevator and ailerons.
Data: Span: 80+ cm.
Lenght: 75 cm.
Pwr: GWS Edf 50
Contr: 2 * supertec micro 9 gr. servos
Esc: Pico 3/5 or GWS 5
Reg: 5 Amps Jamara.
Bat: 8*350 maH NimH.
Weight: hopefully less than 300 gr.
IŽve seen in some other threads, that the fan-unit is located at the very front of the wing and pointing quite a lot down.
Does anyone know why, and what angle would be the right?

All the things just added up. And if IŽm able to at a pic youŽll see.
This one shows the model taken apart.
All it takes to but it together is 2 rubberbands and not too many thumps.
This it how it looks. Weight 162gr. Just the same as the typenr.

Here comes the first flight report.
First: The plane i s able to fly, and can be controlled.
The GWS powerplant proved to be strong enough.
Second, and what went wrong:
The wings are too week If you remember the big ugly bird from Popeye, youŽll have a very nice pic of what happend.
I totally forgot to check the grain of the depron, when building.
Result- to wobbly!
Next step is to reinforce the structure. Some mentioned a 2mm carbonrod, but I donŽt think IŽll do it that way.
IŽm going to convert the wing to a jedelsky-pattern by adding a depron-plate from the LE and back to the middle of the profile.
Iff I do remember to check this time, it should add enough stiff-nes to the wings
