It was GREAT at Shorncliffe this arvo. I was surprised ... expected it to be too north. But the lift was excellent. Brett did heaps of pop-and-drop landing practices with the Beevo. I flew the light Scratcho, the very light PU foam filled Scratcho and the Willow. The PU one is sadly in a bad way. Previous flight (maiden) I had found it needed more down elevator ... couldn't get enough flap compensation. So I put a longer arm on the servo. Checked it all today and launched and it went up, stalled and crashed back on the road. Broke the boom, just behind where I've already patched it. Anyway I "did a Rhys" and strapped a few paddle pop sticks to it to get it back in the air. Found the reason for the crash ... when I push the nose cone on really hard, it stopped the elevator servo arm from giving down elevator. Damn. Anyway kept flying and was having heaps of fun ... this thing is so light and flippy it does loops and tight turns nicely. I was making approaches up the slope to try and "Do an Alex" and hand catch it. After a while it just didn't respond and flew out of view below the cliff to the south. Not sure why, but maybe I was holding the TX in a way that pointed the aerial at the plane. Anyway it was good crash research for the PU method. It made a big mess of the outer third of one wing ... the skins are opened up right around the LE, tip and TE and peeled like a banana right off the brittle polyurethane foam. The PU foam fill technique (with light foam anyway) is absolutely nowhere near as durable as the blue foam core + ampreg around the edges.

Top lil fly at HC this arvo.

Thanks Gizzo for supplying the lead to set up the CG for me on my Bitsa (I owe you some Pb).

That thing flew brilliantly in the light-ish wind. Totally wrapped in that plane.

I practiced a few more landings after you left, but I didn't totally nail them (in behind the bushes most times )

I did manage one just the right side of the foliage - couldn't quite get it to the longer grass, but at least I was close to the ballpark

Did that dude from the 'conservationists' say anything to you? He bailed me up and gave me the spiel (flyers are wrecking the native species yadda yadda yadda). Had a bit of a convo with him. Told him I was a Mexican and just passing through.

Then he started on the dog owners. Wrecking the native species by their dogs having a wiz on them.... yadda yadda yadda.

At least he'd changed his tune as to who was to blame LoL

Really hope you guys can hang on to that site. While it may not be Mecca to some ppl, it's still a great place to fly when the wind is on and from the right direction.

Cheers

You still over in SA BJ?

Good way to get them riled up even more is tell him he should watch where he walks as you just left the remains of last nights vindaloo in behind that bush

Or you could say you are only scoping the place out as you work for Rio Tinto and the place is bubbling with coal seam gas......

They won't be truly happy until any place with a tree or a blade of vegetation is locked out completely

The convo's can go f*** themselves as far as I'm concerned. Bunch of hypocrits, flatten and concrete the rest of the coast to build their retirement pads then have the gall to complain about a few toy aeroplaners and dog walkers enjoying the last piece of land they were kind enough to leave over. Give me a break.
Andrew, thanks for discovering Dolphin Glaze. Got some last week. I love it!

Well....I think we've put the naked grass dancers in their place, as well as found a new use for Dolphins

Never did think much of "Flipper" - that fake 'laugh' and all.

And I insist on buying Tuna that has a bit of the old Whale meat and/or stinkin Dolphin mixed in with it. Waaay more flavour (and protein) that way

Well, technically speaking killer whales are from the dolphin family so I suppose it's ok
