AMD F-14 or SU-35 conversion

Anybody convert one of these to e-power yet?

How did you plan on powering them? They are jet models, did you plan on EDF power or prop?

Greg,
At this point it is just a mental exercise but it would be a simple prop instalation. Tracktor for the F-14, pusher for the SU-35(drooping nose would give it to much down thrust). What do you think?

Let's start with a wing span and wing area measurements. It helps to know the airfoil and/or % thickness. The airframe weight or flying weight is also required. How much money would you be willing to spend to get it flying at the level you'd like?

Using one of the 'Calc programs (Ecalc or MotoCalc) and your figures for the above will point you in the right direction.

span=40'
area=256
airfoil=MH-22
weight(as slope flier)=32oz RTF
loading(as slope flier)=17.9oz/sq. ft.

Slope fliers slammed this bird big time. I'm not sure if it was 'caus of wing loading or just plain doggy handling qualities. Maybe it's more suited to e-power. Or maybe it's more suited to the trash can? It sure is cool looking though.

I just ran it up in Motocalc with a geared Endoplasma and 8-CP1700. It said it would fly but the wing loading was pretty high (30 oz/sq.ft.). I then tried it again with lighter cells and a S480. The watt/lb didn't look too good and the wing loading was still at 26. This is probably not the best model to convert but would probably work if you can get it to the flight speed and then don't mind a pretty fast landing speed. Otherwise it doesn't look too promising as a hand launched plane.
