I have replaced the lining once and had a shed load of problems with the starter dog where it engages with the clutch though. I had to replace the clutch shoes on my X-Cell, this was due to an engine runaway and the clutch over-heated. This caused the metal of the clutch shoes to become heat tempered and break. It could be that if your spooling the Nexy up too quickly you are overheating the clutch and doing the same thing to the clutch shoes?:-of Phil Martin. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Re: Anyone else have problems with the Nexus clutch?
Re the clutches leading or dragging when viewed from above? if they are
leading, they'll fly out, and catch on the clutch tape on the inside of the bell. If they drag ,ie. bolt to the left with the trailing edge of the shoe facing clock wise they shouldn't break. Had that same problem when i had my nexus a few years ago. Stu. Re: Anyone else have problems with the Nexus clutch?
I had a couple of clutch problems when I had a Nexus.
It was the bolts that held the sh0es to the hub that used to break on mine. Stopped happening once I used good quality cap head bolts, plently of thread-lock, and stopped over-tightening the bolts. The flywheel also used to 'undo' itself from the crank, resulting in the clutch shoes jamming up on the underside of the clutch bell and starter shaft. I stopped that by changing to a stronger type of thread lock on the crank threads - but this meant that it was a bugger to get the flywheel off the engine if you ever needed to. Martin.
