Manuel,

Your Hornet is looking good!

I need to do another one and do it in Blue Angels this time. I did a smaller size (18" WS) in Blue Angles and it looks great. I want a bigger one like that now!

VFA-102 Diamond Back

Hello all,

last year I build a Mig29,

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=757214
#296

Here is a video link

Mig29OVT (4 min 47 sec)

this year a FA18F Super Hornet.
I use Tonhe's plan, but I change the engine. My solution is a 64mm EDF Unit.
Motor 3900KV Outrunner
ESC 30A
LiPo 3s, 2200mA, 30C

Elevons
Ailerons, only for banking
Rudder

The modell is 105cm long and has a span about 74cm.
The colour is near the VFA-102 Diamond Back.
The wingtips, rudder and cockpit are a printout on standard inkjet paper, glued with Por. The Diamonds on the back are painted with acryl colour. I like to use airbrush, but thats my next investment.

Here are some pics:

Hallo Rainer,

Very nice job on the F-18! Please let us know how she flies. I've seen these planes with the 64mm EDF and am interested in doing some conversions myself. The first will probably be tomhe's F-22.

MfG,

Pat

Kingpin, how did you mount the fan unit? I have a unit from an F-35 that didn't survive, but the fan unit and motor are fine. Your installation looks really clean.

No propellers to break....

I started with the F-22. The first F-18 met an untimely demise. Hopefully number 2 will be better. This one has both the elevons and ailerons unlike my F-22.

I like the EDF mod. I have both a 70mm and 64mm on the shelf. Hmmm.

Here are some pics. I chose to keep with the tiger theme. Used water-based acrylics from a craft store. Its a lantern orange base with a mist of engine red on the nose and wing roots and some yellow on the tips for some interest. True blue on the top and dolphin gray underneath.

Well, I didn't do a lot of decoration on mine, been flying her for about 2 - 3 months now and loving it. Got inspired by one of my FB's yesterday and stuck a 2250mah batt on it and was thrilled with the performance so I came home and stuck a 3000mah batt I have had laying around here and took her to the field and shot some video this morning. I'm not sure if I got it right on the doppler or not but it looks to be about 94.92mph.

Elevator ailerons, need to hook them together as combo both sides just haven't taken the time to do so.

F-18 New Build

Hey guys, I just finished building this F-18 and had a question. It seems to be "pitch-twitchy." I've played with the throws and expos but they don't really seem to help. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Mark

Check your CG. When it's too far back, this plane is very twitchy. Move it forward some and it should settle down.

What Pat said, throw a heavier batt on it if so.

Thanks. I had played with the CG but I probably didn't go far enough. I'll follow up with your (and the other poster's) suggestion. Otherwise, it flies solid as a rock.
