Carbon Fiber fuselage for Slow Stick?

Has anybody done this? What CF do you use? Any instructions anywhere?

Thanks a lot.

Do you mean the stock fuse that comes in the kit? That's fiberglass. I was looking for something more rigid without adding weight.

I wouldnt do it. The old fuse you would have to but the new one is great. My friend uses it and he crashes all the time and its fine. And my uncle has a park 480 on his stock.

Hi, sorry, didn't quite understand. You mean you would need a stiffer fuse if you had the old aluminum boom but the fiberglass one is OK?

A 480? Wow, I thought I was overpowering with a Scorpion 2215-22.

Thanks
Jim

There is square CF tubing out there...if memory serves Big help. How about a CF arrow shaft? They're cheap, available at Wally, and could be modified for the SS mounts. One guy had cut sections of an aluminum SS fuse and slipped the CF tube inside and glued it in place. Seemed to work fine adapting the round tubing to the square holes.

My Combat Slow Stick has a CF arrow shaft inside the aluminum fuse...works great. It's saved the fuse from crashes that would would have destroyed the stock fuse.

See? Thanks Jimsky! I had an arrowshaft fuse on a plane I built, and I actually managed to break it in a crash, right in front of the forward wing pylon. Stuck a dowel in it, epoxied it back together and wrapped the break area with nylon roving and CA.

Even with my fiberglass fuse I put a square hardwood stick all the way through it. The stick only added 1 oz additional weight.

My original aluminum fuselages have 4mm carbon fiber tubes, encased in balsa sandwiches, within them.

Yea, The CF is strong and so is the aluminum but it would bend when you crashed it. Do you have the CF fuse or the aluminum?

Any chance anyone knows where to get an aluminum one? Actualy I think I can find square CF, that should be fine.

I believe the old syle aluminum fuselages for the SS have gone the way of valuable antiques. Those that are still around are kept out of harms way and only brought out for trusted friends to see but not touch.

I bought up several of the one piece type when they were being phased out and still have three in a box hid in my office. These are being horded and saved for some yet unknown future exotic SS project.

Our LHS has aluminum fuselages for $10.00 if anyone's interested. I don't know how many, maybe 4 or 5. I saw them hanging on a rack behind the counter.
