How far have you gone to retrieve your plane?

I'm talking in terms of "I once climbed a 100 ft tree" , " a neighbors roof when he/she was out of town" or "on top of the mall" type answers

On top of a LARGE pile of Texas pear cactus - about 6 ft high, 10-12 ft across.
It's not just the thorns, it's the THINGS that live in that pile: spiders, scorpins, snakes, rodents, ants, etc, etc.
NASTY!

Surprise! BOP only had a few small punctures!
Crash
P.S. When we enlarged the clear area at the field it was bulldozed and the area sprayed with herbicide. Took awhile to kill the darn thing!

I always get my plane. 40ish feet so far. That's feet level. Put my soarstick up about 80 feet, luckily it came down a week or two later, I was dreading that one!

Basically, my rule is don't fly around trees that are taller than I'll climb:-)

A buddy of mine made an unexpected landing on a hotel roof!!! I believe it was at least 5 stories. He went to the desk and asked to speak to building maintenance who allowed him escorted of course to go on the roof. He got it back in a few pieces and a smooshed 1320 pack.

I was laughing the whole time.

I'm in a very similar situation but it's a strip mall.

Put my EStarter up a tree showing off to some girls at work, i would say the tree was about 60 feet high and the plane was just about right at the top. Had to climb up in my work suit, white shirt, trousers & tie !! Didn't look very professional after i got back down, covered in green slime from the tree !!

Boxing day i also parked the same EStarter in a 50 foot tree in the field behind my house.. i stood throwing rocks at it for about 1/2 an hour in an attempt to dislodge it, in the end i got a 6 meter fishing pole, taped a 3 meter length of copper tube to that and finally "fished" it out from the branches... The neighbours thought it was all rather amusing, me not so.

Apart from these i've had nothing too drastic!

I accidentally landed on top a sloping metal roof office building. Checked with their maintenance - you cannot walk on that kind of roof.

I eventually got it down using a rod and reel and a weighted bobber to not scratch the roof. Had to stand on top a tall step ladder to be high enough to even see the plane on the roof from the sidewalk.

As I pulled it down the last few feet and jerked it up over the edge over the roof gutter of Death, a guy walking by said, "I wondered why you were fishing on the Roof!"

Only wish someone had been there to photograph it.

My buddy overflew our field and lost it in the very dense, heavily overgrown woods, about 200 yards from us. Not good at all. He braved all the evil creatures lurking about, and somehow mananged to find his beloved plane, (I would have done the same if it were mine). He really got lucky it didn't get stuck in a tree, but it ended up about 5 feet from the creek down there. He's also lucky he somehow avoided the poison ivy, poisonous snakes, aligators, and insects the size of Buicks. Took about 2 hours total to retrieve it.

I landed a beginner plane on top of a school after a servo failure. Brought back a ladder and climbed up and got the plane back. At least it was on a Saturday.

Hahaha oh man, that is good. I like how the plane "acts" after it's been freed and the last thing on the screen at the end is funny too , i thought that was you at first - I bet that guy was happy, but I'm sure you were much happier.

I've chased free flight models and rockets several miles to get a "returned'. I've also gotten an egg lofter out of a 50' tree (no return = no points in egg loft).

Farthest I've chased an RC is about a mile when my roommate accidentally hit the power switch when handlaunching my 049 powered glider. It wound up trimmed for a big circle; it climbed for 5 minutes into a nice thermal, then glided for another 15 as it drifted down wind and landed itself perfectly in another city park. At the time it was the longest flight I'd had with it.

My Skyfly got away from me a couple of days ago either due to weak batts , out of range or both. When I tried to turn back towards me it just kept going straight & wound up in the woods behind my sisters house a quater mile away. I found it 50' up in a pine which was about 75' back from the edge of the woods. I got a rope from home & drove back to the woods edge, tied one end of the rope to my hitch & the other end around the tree.Got in the truck & started shaking the tree (violently). It took a while but eventually the plane came down. Good thing my sister wasn't home or I'd never hear the end of it.
