Tower Hobbies Uproar - EP

I crashed my favorite "screw around" plane ..... a Super Star EP aileron model. It was fun because it had a Himax 3630-1000 in her with a 10x8 prop on a 2100 3s lipo. I have to admit, I was doing faster speeds and more stressful manouvers than that little trainer was ever intended for.....so I'm looking for a plane in which to install the 'go-go' parts that I now have laying around. I came across this article

Anyone tried this little beast? Looks like an easy conversion....?

Any other suggestions for this power system?

Uproar

The Himax motor 3630-1000 is rated for 600 watts according to the Himax website. They say it can replace a .40 - 50 gas motor. They also recommend a 35 amp esc. With this combo the Uproar should preform well.

You might want a larger battery perhaps 3000 - 4000 ma.

Thanks for the help! I've got some 2200 4s 25c batts and a few 3s 2100's with a Deans parallel harness....should work. I was trying to work it under the constraints of the 35A ESC....but I think a 60A might be a better choice.....would allow me some flexability to get medieval with the props and power!

Edit: I ordered the Uproar.....I'll post pics on the project when it gets here.....prolly 3 weeks.

Hey now,
I've got two Uproars, Phasor 45-3s for power running on 4s LiPos. Great thrashers! solid flyers, durable, insane roll rates, and they can handle winds too. Not "3D" or anything, but very nice general thrashers for sure.
They even slow down and float nicely...

It should be here this week. I'm wondering if this plane will be similar to the Twist 40? With some extra throws on the control surfaces and near 2:1 thrust to weight ratio we should be able to 3D it, no?

The Magic V2 looks cool......but I have an Uproar coming. I was wondering how close it was to a Twist40 as I have found one for the RF simulator...

Hey now,
The Twist is a very different plane in the air. It's a purpose built 3D model for one, heavier for another.
The uproar is an old design, pre-3D. With the aileron cuts like they are it doesn't have enough aileron authority to hover well. It *really* doesn't like sub-stall stunts in any form. It flies a lot like a 'Stick, but more axial in roll.

The Magic v2, if it's anything like the first Magic would be a *great* plane. I had one for years, retired it flyable cuz I got tired of it's looks. But it's a great flier. Nothing spins like a Magic upright or inverted. I can do ascending spins pivoting on the center of mass, strangest looking thing I've ever seen.
If only it weren't so ugly...

Well....progress is happening.

Uproar is here. Got most of it assembled and working on electrocuting it.

Himax is mounted on the provided mounts. I put 2 washers behind the top mount bolts to give it some down thrust. I mounted the motor with little right thrust.

Removed the mount for the throttle servo. I'm sure the battery will end up in this area. I was going to run some servos which I have laying around, but I'm going to go for low weight and they're standard sized digi servos.....so more mods.

I have a Scorpion 35A ESC.....but the Scorp doesn't like 4s, so I've got a Park BEC going in there so I can run 4s if I like.

Off to buy some HS81's and some light ply....I'll keep the thread going.....

Done!

Well....she's done. I need to weigh 'er yet.

Battery ended up in the fuel tank area for the CG to balance. Had to slot the wing where it passes through the fuse to set the battery back a bit....but my CG is now nice and adjustable.

I don't have the Park BEC on yet....when I try a 4s I'll put it on. Pulls 34A at WOT with a 11x7 APC on 3s....should be about 66oz thrust.

I have 1.5" up and down on the elevator, 1.25 each way on the rudder, and 1.25" up and down on the ailerons on high rates.

Looks great Dave... thanks for sharing...

Had a few 'uproars' in the past... .40 and .60 sizes (.60 had a .90 super tigre on it though )

Think I'd like to try this conversion as well... Have most of the components already sitting on the shelf... Just would need to order the ARF.

Keep us posted... would love to get the flight report once you get it dialed in.

Got 'er done! Quick 5 min flight on a AirThunder 2200 3s. Zero trimming required! ROG in about 10 feet....no funny traits in the air. As this was the maiden, I never tried too many things (keeping in mind, I don't know much anyways....) but it flew great!

Finished up.....had to put some contrast on the bottom. Maiden flight in snowy-grey cold skys with a white bottom made for some squinting...LOL. (Sorry 3DHS for the sticker.....its still advertising...) Got the canopy on....pilot out of a trashed PZ Spitfire.
