Foam safe CA works well and is nice and light.
It may be a little more brittle than UHU Por.

Great design

After looking very carefully at all the plans available here in F3P, checking out any videos I could find, and generally fantasizing about which one has the sexiest lines, I have begun a Cirrus

From the start, I knew I was after a design that emulates as closely as possible the classic F3A lines of its big brothers and sisters. Obviously there are compromises between the two types, but I think the Cirrus has some sweet lines. The video of his design in motion (by AnthonyF3P) sold it for me. Looks like a very slow, precise flyer. Can't wait to get it all togethor and see for myself! Any consensus (Anthony?) on how best to brace and reinforce key areas with this bird? LE carbon strips, or round stock at mid chord (haha, there is no chord )? Maybe I'll try something new here from some things I've read about lately. Anyways, thanks for the great design Anthony! Here's a pic of my cutouts (cellfoam88). I'll post more when it starts coming togethor.

heres mine it doesent do rolling circles as good as i would like it to or knife edge so i just added those 4 things on the wing but dident try it yet. it ways 5.25 oz i used a bunch of heavy stuff like the big deans plugs jeti 8a esc. 3 eflight s75 servos. its 3mm depron from rc foam .com

Hi,

A few weeks ago I started tot build a cirrus.

I painted it in the same colours as the original one at the first post.

Today I finished it.

Maybe some more stabilizers in the future but for now good enough for a maiden.

I tried the new turnigy motor 2211 1300kv (17 grams) . The gold 19 grams (21 real) is better but I'll give it a try. It had enough power to hover at 3/4 throttle.

RtF weight is 119 grams with 3x6 grams Gr/JR C131 servo. 7gr receiver, 4gr 6A ESC and 2s240 lipo from 14 grams.

Yesterday I made the first flight.
It's really slow and stable. Did not do much because of the many planes in the air.
CG was a bit far at the back so in a turn the tail dropped down.
Rudder is very sensitive.
Hovering does it almost without inputs.

Turnigy 2211-1300 kv has enough power for this plane at 119 gram AUW.

I'm just dabbling in F3P even though I fly outdoors very early in the morning and late at night when there is no wind. I'm curious if there is a big difference between using 1mm carbon rod Vs. Kevlar or Spectra thread? True, the thread won't work in compression but if used correctly, shouldn't it be lighter and make just as rigid an airframe?

Thanks for posting the plans 'AnthonyF3P', your Cirrus looks like a real beauty!

Has anyone successfully located "Climapor" for a US market? Could this be the next 'Depron' used in all the latest models?

Hi Matt,

I started off using thread and thought it was a great approach but then I switched to carbon rod and I much prefer the rod. Thread does a great job but you can't easily match the rigidity you can get with rods except with quite highly tensioned lines.
Any crash damage tends to be much worse when the airframe is pre-stressed by tensioned thread. Even a relatively minor impact or handling error can cause a tensioned thread to tear out of it's anchorings!
Thread also makes transport more difficult as there's much more rigging to snag and it's harder to see than rods. Again handling damage is far more likely.
I also find it considerably easier to repair a rod braced plane.

On the plus side for thread is that it's lighter, cheaper and I reckon it's a little easier and quicker to install.

The weight gain with rods is not huge and I think it's worth it.
