Are you really going to spend $206 just because the motor is 6mm and 2,5g?

Are there any specs about this motor? 2.5g sounds a little much for 6mm. Must be pretty long then. Also, those rpm, are they no load rating or what? If I payed 200$ for a motor, I would want to know exactly what I can expect with a given fan. Also, it might be worth consideriong a single phase motor. They are really efficient and can be build exactly to your needs. And building them might be faster than earning 200$. Martin just delivered the proof, that these motors open up new possibilities. I have a controller design if you are interested.

here is the page with all of the specs in pdf form.

However, I do not think its worth it to buy the motor, when something close enough can be achieved with a mighty midget or a pager motor on two cells.

Thanks! well normally I would just put something in it and try to fly but this time I'm taking my time to make sure that all is right, looks good and works well. Today I cut out the ailerons, put in the aileron servo and did a test fit of the wings. I need to wait for my batteries to come in so I can build a little 2 cell. Right now I'm hoping to maiden it next thursday. I also tried making a lightweight canopy today, but no luck. I'll try again tomorrow.

Turns out the little guy wins!! The 102mm fan and 1500 watt motor make 6 lbs of thrust and weigh 1.5 lbs = 4:1 - OK, I'll stop hijacking the thread!

I'll be using my new Jet Saver for this - an idea that I thought of the other night. Because these little jets ALWAYS crash on the nose the first time out, I'll put a cf rod sticking out of the nose about 4 inches. That way it will stick into the ground and then fall over, not harming the plane.

I found that making the whole nose out of EPP takes a lot of the sting out of flights

most of the innards are made out of 1mm depron but the shell is made of molded tissue. so if it hits the nose, its gonna crush in. so I'll try the cf rod sticking out like a refueling hook. if I built the fuse out of foam I'd do it your way mike.. now its like a lawn dart maybe I should make a target

I'm still waiting for those Namiki motors.. but its getting down to the wire so I'll have to just finish up early this week. The way it is now there is barily enough thrust to stay in the air. Only about 8 grams on one cell and 14 grams on 2 cells. Auw is 22 grams with a 2 cell and 19 with one cell. The namiki motor should be able to handle two cell better.
I'll do some crash tests to see if that carbon fiber rod will actually soften the impact.
