I gotta see this one, Josh! Looks awesome in the pix.

Bringing it Tuesday? (Or maybe should wait until outdoors possible??)

I'll bring it on thursday, I have to still make the stab and figure out how I'm going to setup the ailerons cleanly. Outside may be a good idea for the maiden also, but I'll definitely need to get video! I am bringing my new Extra 360 tomorrow that Ryan Archer designed(from the micro edf contest) its got a 16" wingspan and is ready for 3D!

well I'm faced with some tough decisions now. time is of the essence for the contest so I'm debating about power setups. I'd like to give the brushed setup a chance, after all, its very light. I'm looking at an AUW of 22 grams. Brushless is looking tempting now too... With the plantraco rx and yge4 controller, I can get the weight down to 37 grams brushless. Most likely I'll have to maiden indoors, so I shoud probably choose brushed. Maybe I'll do a conversion when it gets nice out.

Josh,
I don't know what your wing loading is but it's probably too high to use the brushless setup. Go with the brushed motor for now.

Hi,
At 12g/sq.dm brushed it'll be fairly easy to fly. Also the lighter weight will keep momentum low so damage won't be as bad if you crash it. If you can get 15 grams thrust it should do nicely.
At 21g/sq.dm brushless it will be significantly faster.

The only solution to get a similar AUW with a brushless motor and then a wingloading compatible with indoor flying, is to use the DC enterprise 3g motor made for the EDF30 (sold at BSD).
Maybe it can give a decent thrust with one lipo as the thrust with 2 lipos is 35-40g.
Needs a home made DF to fit the motor.

The ESC could be the MCB3 microinvent (0,5-1g).
i admit it's an expensive solution.

Yeah, 1.2 oz of thrust for $80.00?????

I was just struck by the fact that I have a 102mm Haoye fan and a Quannum 1500 watt inrunner in my 55" Hawk, and both of them came to about $60.00, for about 6 POUNDS of thrust! LOL!

(Of course, the 10S A123 packs add a little to the cost)!

Oh well, really big and really small end up costing more than just regular stuff, I guess!

Yes, with a 3g motor! It's all relative as Einstein said...

Yeah, now if we could have a working version of an antimatter drive, we could get huge power from REALLY tiny equipment - LOL!

I wonder what has the maximum thrust/weight larger or smaller - Lessee, the EDF 30 above weighs about 6 grams and makes 40 grams - like about a 7/1 ratio -

I believe my 102" combo might have that beat --- I'll confirm

well I did get a price for a 6mm custom made brushless motor that is $206. I'm waiting to find out how many rpms it can put out at 3.7 and 7.4volts and how much it weighs.
