Hey Arlen,

While you are at it, can you move it closer to Helena?

OK, my son and I are planning the Saturday Marathon. ALES in the morning/early afternoon, then TableTop for the later afternoon/evening. OH YEAH!!!!! Wind or no wind, I am throwing something off of TableTop

Thanks TIO,

I guess I will wait to see what the morning brings. Still want to show up, unless the weather has turned horrible. I have planes ready to go.

5/5/12 at TT

It was a good thing for guys like myself and Chip that the ALES event was postponed yesterday. That enabled us to spend some time doing some slope soaring at Table Top in between some pretty nasty and chilling squalls. The ALES flying would have been 'sketchy' to say the least, BUT the sloping was pretty big at times. My brother, TIO, had committed to some time at TT with a couple of his flight class students and their dads, so I rode along and brought some of my hangar with me. Chip and his son joined us shortly thereafter. There was lots of "newbie" sloping until the winds got too strong, thus making way for some aileron flying. Since I'm always posting pix of myself and my brother, I thought it would be refreshing to post some of Chip since this was his first time out in quite some time. It was also the first time I've ever seen Chip spend some time in his pickup for the purpose of warming up! The pictures I took aren't all that fantastic, but hopefully will give you a sense of the day and the kind of flying we had!
Blessings!
Arlen

That's because Chip doesn't own any long pants or long sleeved shirts!

Saturday at ThreeForks

Hey all,

Saturday was a blast! Winds and lift were undecided for the a little while in the beginning, but westerly winds prevailed for the most part.

When I arrived, TIO was doing some instructing with a couple of his students. Unfortunately the poor weather conditions soon blew them out. I felt bad for his students not being able to get in valuable instruction time, but as we all know from experience, patience is part of this hobby and mother nature can be cruel at times.

I started with the Slope Monkey, and spanked it right off the bat, with a launch right into the dirt about 5 feet in front of me, DOH! But, alas it is a Monkey, so pick it up and chuck it again! Flew it for awhile, even through the wind change and walk around the slope following the wind.

Then watched TIO and Arlen fly for a bit. All the while a squall out in front of us was getting closer. The winds were accelerating and the temp was dropping. Sounded like a good time to fly the Katie II. For an older (80's) aileron trainer, she sure brings a smile to my face. Just a sweet pleasure to fly. After flying her, I put my Spider 60 up in the air. For only weighing 21oz, she sure can penetrate.

TIO had me fly his newly built Sig Ninja, VERY NICE! TIO is a craftsman for sure, his planes are very well built and covered. I flew his Ninja around for a bit and am happy to say she flew flawlessly, even inverted. Then he had me land her, ya that made a bit nervous. Flying someone else's planes can be unnerving, not because the plane doesn't fly right , but because I might get dumb thumbs and dork one in, LOL! Managed to land her without incident, WOOHOO!

After the storm squall moved past the winds lightened up a bit, the lift strengthened and the temps came back up a bit. All in all, a very nice day of flying! The only disappointment, not being able to get my son on the buddy box for some slope training.

Thank you Alren and TIO for coming out and flying with me and my son. Was great seeing you two and getting in some well needed slope flying.

TT Sat.

Thanks 69M for coming down. It was great to meet and get to know your son a little bit--a good egg, he is! He maintained his energy the entire day and had a good attitude as well. I hope some day we get to put you on the NW or NE slopes on a really good wind day--you'll not want to stop.

I've attached a few pics for your perusal.

Have a great day, all.

Always Better Than I Deserve,

TIO

Table Top

After we left the AlES event we stop at Table Top on the way back to Billings.
Not much wind, but Dick flew his electric, He pick up a wing Man?
the bird stay with the glider for about 15 min.
That made up for little wind and made the Table Top stop over well worth it.
