Pics of my F22 based on Adam's 5mm 20x30 plan

She flies ok, loops and rolls fine, but the 1811-3800 feels underpowered for this 180g plane. Waiting for the delivery of the recommended motor and see if it will make this thing scoot.

Thanks adam for a fantastic plan!!

Some flying pics last weekend, the camo almost made it invisible when passing in front of those thunder clouds

Flew mine yesterday and it was so easy to fly.
For an minute or so it was no problem. Did an loop an should do a roll when one rudder must hawe got lose.
Whent right down in a barrel roll an is no more
Going to build another one but beeing more careful while building

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I use hot glue to secure my control horns.

Good luck on the next one!

dean, ive found the best auw for that motor is 120g and it should do about 50mph, mine did, but got porky at 140g still fast but felt sluggish, and best prop ive found is the gws 4x2.5.

ive also just FINALLY got the 1806 2500kv motor(i have a 2350kv one), its been out of stock for donks, and what amp draw are you guys getting on it? a 5x3 is pulling 14amps!!!!! a 4.5x4.5 pulls 11, tis only rated at 8amp what the smeg.
a 5x3 on the 2350kv gets 8 odd, i have a range of props to test but its late and every one is in bed, but its looking like a 4x2.5 should work or clip one down to a 4x3, a 4.1x4.1 might work 10amp i can live with as i have massive in flight cooling using a heatsink in air flow, but even 11 amp was not that hot, 14 was tho after it had stood and the heat had transfered from the windings

I've found that the GWS 4530 (4.5x3) is the perfect prop for this 1806N 2500kv motor.

Yup 4x2.5 seems the right prop for the motor. But my AUW is about 180g so it gets a bit undepowered and sluggish. My weight might be because I used 5mm foam board from the 20x30 plan and used a 2S 800mAh lipo. I ordered a couple of 3mm FB and build another one when the recommended motor arrives.

Anyways, this thing fly and could easily catch up with my fellow flier's GWS Zero and Guanli P47 warbirds even if it is a bit underpowered.

thanxs pat i will try one of those as well, it was only size i missed, i spent more on props than the motor cost, ive tried a 4x4.5 which worked well and the 4.5x4.5 was ok but compared to the 2350kv one it seemed slow using the same props, and the 2350kv on a 5x3 really shines, bit disappointed in the performance of the 2500kv motor.

if you build out of 3mm it should come in at about 120g using a 500mah or 800mah 2s and 5g servos, i prefer tha 1811 if i can keep it light as it just bounces and is almost as quick as using the 2350kv one and seems to high alpha better but both are excellent performers, one is just lighter.

o yeah i forgot to say i love the noise of the 1811 its a little screamer aint it, i could not believe how much power it had for something so tiny(ive lost it more than once lol), i want to use it for a little 3D plane or a mini hotliner,im gonna try for 100g or under and it should be like off a shovel at that weight. or maybe the 12in f22 if im not dreaming that there are 12in plans

ps ive ran doppler on the 1811 3800kv 120-130g f22 at 40mph 45mph and 50mph(downwind).
i could not get a clear run on the 1806 as i got prop flex and it made a weird noise so could not get a speed reading

-news from germany..

So I failed to check my servos worked in the correct directions... wich meant after the start it took about 0.1 seconds to completly crush the F-22s nose.

Anyway.. after setting the servos up the correct way it was flying.. without a nose now.. tail heavy.. and with a terrible role rate.. but still.. it was controlable - this is my first self build plane - and it's my second plane ever (30 flights of HK-Miniswift is my whole flying experience) - so I am still proud it flew.

(Even if I'm very angry with myself rushing to fly without checking everything.. )

Here is what happend:

Youtube F22 Crash & Flight

I'll now build a new nose - at home i removed the crushed parts completly, and I think I can attach a new nose.

And man.. this thing is noisy - I am using these components:

AX 1806N 2500kv Brushless Micro Motor (19g)
HXT500 5g / .8kg / .10sec Micro Servo
HobbyKing 12A BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controller
GWS EP Propeller (DD-5030 127x76mm)
Rhino 610mAh 2S 7.4v 20C Lipoly Pack

+ a prop saver
+ some balsa wood
+ 1mm wire

My roll rate is terrible (I can fly arround, but I absolutly can't roll the jet.. it's so slow I would crash into the ground before it comes arround).. not sure what exactly I did wrong. But with a new nose I'll sure do more flights and experiment arround.

So much for now, thanks for the plans for this plane!

Go with a smaller prop, dump the 2S battery and go to a 3S. Set your controls for max deflection and add some differential at center. That will wake it up! I fly a 3S 800 mah or a 3S 500 mah battery in mine. Flys great rolls good and is fast!! marty
