to the altitude I want and simply cut back to a slow cruise. This almost always attracts eagles, looks like food I guess, we all go around in circles till the fun starts. Several have made dives at it but have never snatched it.

Anyway, I get most of my stuff from HobbyKing because of the price and can't comment about the motors you mentioned. I do have a new Blue wonder that I've never used, I can put it on one and let you know if it works. Maybe someone else has already tried it and can comment.

One of my F22s now has an EMAX 2805 that I use just to get some use out of my 2s batteries. Performance is only half of a 3s. It wasn't made for a 3s and won't run on one, it just shut down at about mid throttle when I tried it. 7v-9v is printed right on the motor.
jsky thought it was 2s the 2805 but seen a guy on here using 3s snice i think,
yea i need one that runs 3s one i have is 2s only a turnigy t1811 3800kv 10g
pretty quick on 2s and a 4.5x2.5 but want a 3s screamer, thats why i was looking at those blue wonder 3000-4000 kv ones.
i always seem to get a few seagulls come down for a look but soon as i power up to wot soon bugger off.
Motor is louder than my tp2408 on a 7x4 almost silent compared to the tiny one can hear it echo off the buildings in the morning, ive also hit a pidgin with my wing dragon turned full power into a small flock killed it no damage to my plane cept a small side ways beak mark in the foam lol

Foxy, yup, I've been running my Emax 2805 (2800Kv) on 3s consistently since I got it without incident. I am relatively new to all of this e-power stuff but I think the trouble zone with this motor is when you pull too many amps (18+). At first I was running it on a 3S 600 20C lipo with a 10A ESC, and a GWS SF 7x6 prop cut down to 5x6. I was pretty happy with the performance until I got a watt meter -- and then I learned that I was lucky that I hadn't blown something up! I tested the prop and motor with a bigger battery and larger ESC -- That cut down prop was giving me 218W, but it was drawing 20A! I had been killing my battery and pushing the ESC to it's limits! I did some more testing and found that the best prop for me was the APC 5.1x4.5. It pulled 17A max (the 2805 is rated for 18A/30sec) and gave me 177W and about 16oz of thrust (I mounted the motor to a scale). Since then, I have used the following setup:1000mAh 20C 3S lipo, 20A Esc, APC 5.1x4.5 prop, Emax 2805. The 2805 has never skipped a beat! I've also thought about getting a higher "C" pack so I could use a smaller lipo and save on some weight.

As I said earlier -- I am still a noobie to all of this -- PLEASE correct me if any of the above is incorrect! The above is an account of my personal experience!

how fast would you say it goes on 177w, thats about what my freeair su27 is pushing on either a emax 2812 or a tp2408 on 6x6 cut down from a 7x6 and that does 50mph EZ so that f22 must be supersonic
tis strange that jsky's craps out on 3s but yours is fine, i might get one cos robotbirds is doing a deal on all 3 CF motors the 08,12,22 for 15 pounds not bad for three motors there about 6.99 on there own and all a different class small planes 2800 ,900kv3d planes, and a 1500 that will do most planes

well, it moves, but its definitely not supersonic! I would be surprised if it was doing 40mph -- but I am a bad judge of speed. I'm not sure of the relationship between Watts and speed. I'm more impressed with the High Alpha maneuvers that are possible with this setup over the speed! I have two of these motors, and a 2812 which I have yet to use!

Battery

Guys I happened to get 2 of these batterys (see below) on RCGroups at a good price. I plan to try them in the F22 soon. Our club field is absolutely saturated with water from the recent rains , so I'm just waiting for warmer weather to dry it up. Will let you Guys know what happens after I try them. I still think the hot set up for this plane is the 800mah, 3 cell battery. The plane tolerates the weight well, has plenty of juice and gives long flights. Marty

wow just watched this guys vid he built a 1/15 scale corsair from scratch out of ALU with no machine all hand built with working flaps, flight surfaces and a complete replica of the wing folding mech, its UNBELIEVABLE detail is beyond belief total perfection im gob smacked by this plane.he has built 200 of all kinds of plane WOW WOW WOW ENJOY I DID
F4U Corsair/ Engineering model in aluminum / True Scratch Build (9 min 33 sec)

also just got my 2s 800mah long max and in strong winds averaging 10mph ish got 16mins of almost full throttle flight, this plane handles wind very well for such a small light plane, i love it and enjoy flying in wind thats almost too strong, almost got flipped over roll ways and nose over tail a few times, good fun might scale one up or just seen the deken f22 very simple and wont take much foam as ive only got a smidge off 6mm left loads of 3mm got 2 quart sheets and a full sheet of 6mm that i cut my shumat f15 wing out of but no cf to put in it all my GC gear came but still waiting on 6mm and 5mm cf tubes i wanna fly my big 15 grrr

just seen this little prop slot mod as mine was a bit noisy, instead of a straight slot cut it like a bow tie it made a big differance on my plane and is also supposed to make it give a bit more thrust but cant comment on that.
And i finaly got mine on my watt meter with 2s 4x2.5 gws i get just under 7amp on wot and on a 3x3 i get just under 6, im waiting on some more props at the min a 4x3 and a 5x3 last one might be too much tho but the turnigy spec sheet says 7.5a on the 5x3 and 6 on the 4x3 which i get on a 4x2.5 so my motor might be slighty hotter than 3800kv they used?? but amps drop quite quick on full chat and might have more thrust down low so wont need full power as much, and not too fussed about this motor as im getting a 20-24g one nwxt week for more grunt

I too have heard about the bow tie prop slot. Going to try it out on a few planes. If it works I'll probably modify all my plans.

Hey foxy29, tried my blue wonder on an F22 and was not impressed. This is only a 1700kv and not a fair comparison to the 3000-4000 blue wonder you were considering.

I'm still convinced adbradley nailed the best motor in the 1st post in this thread. It's light, cheap, finally available, and a real screamer.

I have to agree. The 1806N 2500kv (and even the 2200kv version) with a GWS 4530 and 3S 500 lipo is the best setup on this plane. It's not the absolute fastest combo out there, but it gives unlimited vertical performance and speeds in the 50mph range.

I agree

I agree Pat. 50+ flights have proven this combo to be the best. Also this flight system is reasonably priced. You gotta love it! Marty

thanks jsky it does look like a good motor and have seen it used on many many planes now but at the prices of these motors even if they aint that good you have only lost 5-6 quid or dollars.
I will be getting A new motor next payday and get the 1806 and prolly a high kv one as well for kicks and hopefully mental speed and can also put it in an gws edf as well although my 1811 3800kv prolly pushing 40mph on 2s!!! so the 4000kv should be insane on 3s

also bowtie slot made it very quiet but did not notice any speed increase as it was windy, love flying this plane in the wind has any one else tried it in 10mph wind?? mine wobbles a bit but faster you go less it affects it.

I have a 1700 blue wonder on my heavy F22, running a 6x5 prop, and it works well. Its not a rocket ship, but its a decent flyer with that setup.
