With the 12" F-22 stability becomes a problem. I made a 12", it has a hard time turning left. It wants to knife edge whenever you bank left. So you have to turn at a higher speed. Also you do loose a lot of thrust since you are limited by the small opening in the fuselage.

Swimmer,

Here you go. I'm also including a couple of pics. This was my "Fly Anywhere" plane. On 2S you can High Alpha and literally fly circles around yourself. On 3S it will "Boot, Scoot, and Boogie" as they say. Enjoy!!! And post pics/vids!!!

One las thing. 250mAh bats work great. Both 2S and 3S bats fit inside the belly pan.

Really appreciate the information, pics and plans. I'll get to it when I finish my 18.8. Looks like a great size to fly in our indoor space and even more outside.

Yep - it's the 18" version from Pat. The motor is the PowerUp 250 sport from HeadsUp RC.

You space is small, but I have zoomed mine around in the front yard / street and Google Maps says that's an even smaller space.

On my build, I laid the battery sideways, right across the CG, so I can go with different sizes. 450 3S is the smallest I've run, and it flies fine. Never tried a 2S, but I think I will.

Smaller: print at a smaller scale
Larger: Not a good idea. It's better to scale the single-sheet plan to the size you want; and then tile it.

Thanks, Bill. I found these settings on my printer. Never seen them before, duh.

Prop Questions

I'm currently waiting on motor and esc for my 5mm 18 inch wing span F22 and in the preliminary stages of cutting out a 3mm 14 inch wing span.

Are the props standard props or are they actually pusher props?

Swimmer,

I generally use GWS EP-4025/4040/4530 props with a prop saver. You can order them most anywhere. They are standard 4" and 4.5" props. Just make sure to have the lettering facing forward.

My LHS carries these props and both motors I've ordered have prop savers. Used your tiled plans for my 14 inch and all working out great.

I hoping to build enthusiasm for the 14 inch F22 among the guys I fly indoors with weekly and they all will want to build one. Be fun to get a little combat competition going.

Thanks, Ksqm,

Allan,

I used the GWS 4530 on mine with a Hyperion 3mm prop saver. The hubs on the GWS props are just a tad small for the prop saver, but I ream them out with a 7/32 drill bit for a perfect fit!.

And as ksqm said, numbers always face forward, and check the motor to ensure the prop spins in the correct direction. If not, just switch any two motor-to-ESC wires.

I noticed the other day that I have my physical linkages set up to medium throws, so I moved things around for maximum insanity. Roll rate is now officially scary.

What brand of batteries are you using in your 14 inch wing span F22?

Not sure what he uses, but I like Hyperion G3's (and the price is reasonable):

Hyperion 2S 25C

Hyperion 3S 25C
