Guys,
Here are the first pics of the Nascar Nirvana..

Now, my pic taking skills are horrible, but, you can get the idea..The boat was painted in a maroon metallic, with gold pin stripe, the big box that hadda take Dennis all day to build to hold the rig is setting against the wall..you coulda buried Dracula in this box, its got so many nails in it..

The keel if you look closely has been totally changed, wider, different taper, and a new bulb.

The craftmanship on it is outstanding. truly. rudder has some subtle shaving, and shaping, not much, I will throw on the rig tomorrow, and take pics with daylight.

Want to again Thank Dennis, as I had said earlier on, he is a TRUE hobbiest, there is absolutely no gain in this for him, was all loss of time and money..

It had to cost $100 to blue label it to me like he did, and he REFUSES to accept even that.

I would politely ask any of you guys that can appreciate his time, and expert knowledge that was applied here, you can count the hours, in paint, fabrication, rigging, tuning, etc. , to PLEASE drop him a note of thanks at dddsct@yahoo.com. Because of selfless guys like this, we HAVE hobbies.

I will post pics of the boat assembled tomorrow, I wanted to get some up now, I'm like a kid when a big box shows up.

To add to the keel story, the concern he had with the keel was the flex, waaaay to much, he said, now, its got viagra in it..

Dave from Harbor models has named it "Dago Red" VERY appropriate to me..

Seems when keels flex to that degree, you use a lot more rudder to control the boat, which slows it down..me, as the resident moron, dunno bout these sailboats.

But, I'm a quick learner, and I have the best teachers, thank God..

Guys,
Along with the boat came a bunch of pics, mostly of set up, but I want to share 2 pics of what was done to the keel..Including the new bulb..casting and pouring a new bulb aint easy..so you can see what I mean by time invested, and then look at the keel pics, untraceable. amazing workmanship.

I took these pics in my front yard, and as I said, pics are not my thing, but, you can see em. lot of changes, how the rig is now tied to the hull NOT from the top of the mast, stainless wire, infinite adjustment on the booms, sails, and a new vang, etc., rudder tube blended into the bottom of the boat, and on and on.

I have pics on all the set up, adjustment, etc. so that it will run like its supposed to.

I had a thought on what to really do with the boat, would be a great thing to keep, as it is the only one. and never will be again, built by a REAL builder.

But, truthfully, I will never be, and dont aspire to be a pro sailor, Im a gas boat guy.

One of the gas races we have here in Chicago is at a place called Lambs Farm, a private high end facility for disabled kids, residential. They have a beautiful lake in the property, and the kids have the usage of it..they can build little things, and my thought was to auction this boat here, and use the proceeds to buy little, wooden sailboat kits for the kids there. http://www.lambsfarm.org/

Best use of this one of a kind boat, pays back Dennis in kind, helps others.

Boat is a new boat, comes with all you see, plus the 2.4 radio, $100 sails, and the knowledge you helped and put smiles on kids faces..remember, this boat stock now retails for $299.00, the sails, rigging, and other new hardware would go at least $350.

Steve Lang donated the boat, and Dennis did the work. I usually dont talk about my title, and responsibility as North American Nirvana class sect'y. But, the object of that job is to promote the Nirvana, and the hobby..we ARE Nirvana..can we give something back?

I'll open the bids at $250. thats my bid...

John,
Great idea. As I mentioned to you on the phone, the boat needs to be tested, videos made, good photos documenting the mods with details before it goes away to some one who might not be interested in documenting all this R & D.

Me thinks there is plenty of time to raffle it off. It needs to be sailed side by side with stock Nirvanas to see what all this work translate to.

It would be crime not to properly document all of this and make a video log of how the boat performs. I thought that was the purpose of this project?

I mentioned that Crash takes great videos and has a connection with local TV, why not get all the testing done and recorded, then use the media to help put the raffle on the map and generate some real money.

I have lots of questions for Dennis/you since you are the keeper of the HP Nirvana.
One pictures is too fuzzy to get the details of the work Dennis did on the Crane.
Can you take another picture of that for us?? Please.

Well,
Rick, videos, documenting, testing, aint me, bro, you know that.

In talking with Crash this morning, He doesnt need the boat, The cost of shipping the boat now, because of the 2 box, oversize rig box is also a factor. aint nobody gonna want to ship it back on their dime.

I agree with we cant make the boat a mystery, not the reason for the project, its to inform the guys to what level the boat can be taken by a pro. thats been done here.

I will take any pics requested, under the understanding that as we know, I take awful pics..

The raffle time is now, I care more about the kids having fun this summer, I know we all will.

Here are the pics you asked for, and for anyone wanting details, I have pics from Dennis as far as all the adjustments.

And, its not about a national charity drive, its about the Nirvana group giving some of the same pleasure we get from sailing to these kids.

I put up my money with the first bid. cheaper than I can buy a stock boat..we, as a group, are NOT going to lose any of the info on the project, I am just trying to give someone a unique, one off boat to have, and make a few kids smile doing it.

All the parts are on the boat, the sailor still gotta sail it.

On that note, as you know, my Nirvana is modded, I, and a friend more novice than myself, put them in my lake, the red one is noticably faster than mine. I attribute that to no keel flex, and better sail control.

When I ran the boat, the most noticable thing is less rudder movement to keep the boat going straight, and good sail shape with wind on em.

But, the real world comes in, and that is, a 20% increase in a 7 mph boat is 1.4 mph.. something realized in competition with another boat, certainly not seen.. lol unless someones eyes that are better than mine can judge 1.4 mph.

A few more, showing the same control rigging, but, on the stock sails, as you can see this boat was a blue one, the hard to get color..

Hmmm. Lets think about a bid on the Dago Red. The retail price with the 2.4 radio is $269.00. Then you have those super sails at say, $100.00 and upgraded rigging to handle the extra wind force and a serious high torque servo, I believe, and an upgraded keel that probably nobody thought of doing or even knew why it should be done. That makes it a steal at $275.00 and that's my bid.
So when I'm buzzing around the pond with flames trailing on the water, the rest of you technical guys will still be talking about the existential philosophy of painting the boat purple.

As a condition of the sale, I suggest it be a requirement of the new owner to take pictures and video the boat in action and post them here on the forum. And if possible, testing it along side other less fortunate Nirvanas.
How say you?
