I see the upcoming Nationals are listed as a Gold Chevron event with AMYA.

Does that mean we have to be registered with AMYA to compete for a place?

Hope I didn't just open a can.......

Hobbyking Gemini 600 Catamaran maiden!

Hiya guys!

82F and absolutely wonderful weather today here in sunny Florida!

I finished the Hobbyking Gemini 600 powered sailboat today and maidened same!

The good, the bad and the ugly is chronicled in the viddy below!

In short, like the intelligence gathered it's a 10kt boat!

I sailed it to it's designed limit and it did as it was expected.

@ 15kts laterally to the wind and chop it rolled over @ 4:59!

I plucked the little devil from the water poured out the 3 or 4 ounces and utilized wifeys blow dryer for it's unintended purpose! Voila' good as new!

The waterproof radio box mod was work the wait!

The Gemini is going to be used as an early morning, late afternoon light wind sailer and I'm proud to give it a 4 out of 5 stars!

It's no Nirvana but it's a fun little boat none the less!

(viddy will finishing loading in about an hour)

I think if you want sail in a AMYA sanctioned regatta you must be member of the AMYA.

This is the same thing I went through last year with hosting the 1st Nirvana Nats....AMYA says you can have "non-AMYA" boats in a AMYA sponsored event but they can't win a "AMYA chevron". I've personally belonged to AMYA since our club beginnings back in 2008, but didn't want to see guys not show for the regatta because of the AMYA dues thing. So I then unregistered the event with AMYA so anyone could win/place. We just didn't have AMYA chevrons. I think most had a pretty good time and it was fair to all.

It didn't seem right to me have guys come all that way to compete and not be able to win a place and get reconized for it just because they didn't want to shell out for AMYA dues. It cost enough to go to one of these events without that extra expense and we have a hard enough time getting sailors to compete in this beginners class of boats.

Like I said...I hope I didn't open a can...but it is still early if changes need be made.

I understand Captn, have run into that issue locally. I think it may be up to the people running the regatta.

And.................I've tried to get us chevrons but got no where with that....

I still say bones would be to my liking....1 for third, 2 for second, cross bones for 1st place...they would look especially good on the VULTURE....

Thanx Capt Crash!

Yah, I'm spoiled by the behavior of the Nirvana II!

I suspect a better or more experienced sailor would have simply used the auxiliary power to make a "quick" turn there at the end and not expose the Cat to that potential roll over. You can bet that I will note that in the future!

A cool front is coming over the next few days and the wind will be up.

You can bet I'll be sailing the Nirvana in lieu of the new Cat!

Please pray for us as it will be a "chilly" 74F over the next 5 days rather than the 82F we have been experiencing!

All the best!

b

PS Been "eyeballing" THIS and THIS! Someone STOP ME!

We are going to have the AMYA list it as a Green Regatta, this way everyone gets to play and we get the exposure and support the AMYA offers. AMYA was very helpful in working this out and responded very quickly.

Seebee has a good idea and if the AMYA is good with it, why not. If some attendees are not members, that is OK and if they are that's OK too.

All are welcome as far as I am concerned!
