Going to the Black Mountain regatta tomorrow, mid 70's with 5mph wind, about 6 to 10 boats, should be fun.

Are battens really needed on these boats?

Here are a few shots of Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain, NC, doesn't really give a feel for how long the course is but shows how nice the lake is and some of the facilities.

Looked like a great place to sail. Y'all had a good time too...a great way to spend the day. I spent the day getting ready to go bass fishing. Haven't been in forever...but got the bronco running again so I can pull the boat and I got the fishing fever. Fathers day on the Alabama river for me and the ole lady.

Thanks for the pics...

Welcome Steve (sbales ) new Nirvana owner. Steve lives out in Barstow working for the railroad. We've been chatting on another thread about what might be a good first boat for him.
Clearly, Steve is a bright fellow as demostrated by his purchasing a new Nirvana from Steve Lang.

Pappy
Good chatting with you! Nice pictures for sure.
As soon as I have any updates I'll let you know.

My solution to my Nirvana,s weather helm

Since I have had my Nirvana I have had constant severe round-up difficulties. I have read everything on here and elsewhere concerning the problem for RC and full scale boats. What I had to do to stop it I think might be unusually excessive, so what do you experts (for I consider you guys to be experts) have to say?

I had to bend the mast forward off center exactly 2 1/2" plus add 3 3/4 oz. of weight to the stern (cockpit seats). I took it out yesterday in 7-14 mph breezes and lo and behold, no round up...a slight bit if I had the sheets in real tight.

Does this type of fix seem reasonable or do you consider it excessive?

Seems a bit much to me, I fixed mine(I don't think you ever get it all out or you trade one helm for the other) by moving shrouds to the 17" mark, lowering the jib boom as much as possible, and running the forstay and shrouds tight. I tightend the shrouds first, then the forstay, loose back stay. I also moved the jib eyelet forward and tied it to where the forstay meets the mast. This weekend it ran so straight and little weather helm except in the verry strongest gust. May not be an issue to you, but those that race, the added weight is a no no. I'm sure you will get other suggestions, but this worked for me and my boat.

Hi seabee

I felt that it was a bit much of a slant forward, too, but by golly it worked. I tried moving the jib forward also, but didn't work well. By moving the shrouds back to 17", wouldn't that tend to pull the mast more rearward? At one point I moved the jib stay to the top at the crane. It sailed fine that way but with the wider gap between the jib and the mast wouldn't that tend to make it loose power? I read an article about full size boats that changing the weight ratio from bow to stern, i.e., putting more weight to stern than to bow would also reduce the WH, which it seemed to. I don't know if this boat is just different that other Nirvanas or what but I seem to have problems others don't. Yesterday the boat sailed straight and seemed to have good speed, of course I don't have any other boat to gauge speed by. My only worry now is the excess tension on the Jib stay mast fitting. Anyway I rather enjoy dickering with it. Hopefully I will have other boats (Soling 1m) to sail with pretty soon.

Just to clarify, I didn't move the jib forward, I moved the eyelet forward by installing a new one.

AH! I see said the blind man...this is what I hate about communication with typed messages...too easy to get things wrong or not get 'em at all. Thanks.
