I guess I'm a little gun shy since I loaned my boat to a bystander for a while a few years back.
I went to the little boys room, and when I got back he had the boat jammed in the far corner of the cement pond, and not responding.

I was using a five channel with no end point adjustments.
It would growl and hum at full down stick and I knew that, I just didn't use full down stick,or just very briefly.

He didn't know about any of that stuff, (I neglected to mention it to him), and he stripped my servo gears, and killed my batteries.

I had the same trouble with too much travel on an old Futaba Attack, so I stuck a bit of plastic on to the case to limit the travel
This Tx was only used for one boat, but if used for two or more, then a snail cam screwed to the front of the case would give variable adjustment.

Cleaning out my garage this weekend and came across a 8 battery AA charger, this got me to wondering what the pros and cons are of rechargeable vs throwaway batteries are. What has been your experience?

Cost..I havent used anything but rechargables for 15 years..plus, I charge before I fly/drive/boat, so there is always the knowledge of full batts.

I just bought 12 rechargeables from Hobby King and have not used them yet. I am still going through a stash of alkalines I had.

Everything I have read has been positive to this point. I will let you know.

Me too, well, 3 years anyway.
Bought some more last year, since I like to have spare sets with me.
I prefer the LSD NiMH AA 2200 mah rechargeables from Hobby King, they hold their charge for up to a year and the price is certainly right.
Around where I live you can buy brand name LSD type NiMH AA batteries for around $18.00 for 4, or you can get them from HK for $1.29 each, .79 cents for AAAs.

I just bought some AAAs rechargeables too from HK (800 mah), , for the household things like remotes, penlight flashlights, etc.

Costs pennies to recharge them, you never run out of batteries when you need them, etc..

The shipping and customs etc is pretty steep, so I buy them in bunches to lower the overall cost.

I believe Hobby King offers theirs for around $1.50/piece. Much more affordable than Duracell or Energizer.

Like Captn said. Even if you don't use them on your boats, goodness knows, with kids, I need then all the time.

That is a good practice Chidago, good for you.

I have several sets of batteries (you know I like to do marathon sailing sessions ), and I'm careful to rotate them and not mix the "sets".
Not anal about it, but I try anyway.

I put elastics around each set, and put each set in their own zip lock baggie. (The HK batteries each come in their own little baggie, so I save them and use them. With care you can get a set of 4 into each baggie.)
The loose ones in the baggies are used, the ones with elastics around them are the fresh recharged ones. (that's my system/story and I'm sticking to it )
Hmm, maybe that is anal.

I have found these LSDs do hold their charge pretty well, so I might top up the oldest ones (charge-wise), before I go out, but the rest of them, I just toss in my tool box and take them with me, just in case.

I get so much time out of a set (4-12 hours depending on wind conditions and stick input), that I rarely have to change them anyway.
If I do and they are not topped right up, it's no biggy, because they are still fresher than the the ones I just removed, and "just how long can I sail anyway", without getting a divorce?
.
