not sure of your skill level in setup, and mine isn't that good either, but it depends on if you have weather helm (boat turns into the wind), or lee helm (boat turns away from the wind). i forget witch way you need to lean the mast to correct for whichever you have. it's center of effort thing of the sails. i think it's back for weather helm, and forward for lee helm. then again it mite be the other way.

Geez, you are not old yet! On your way yes, but not old. Over 65 is pretty much the starting gate for getting there!

Ok, the jib doubles as a for stay eliminating a separate fore-stay on a Nirvana. Ya'll know what I ment.

I am a power boat guy, and learning all this sailing lingo is a kind of a pain.
I have downloaded a Sailing lingo guide to use to de-code some of the comments I read on the fourm to help me understand. Still learning.

I find I can affect some sailing characteristics by pulling the mast back in certain wind conditions. I don't find doing that affects the Nirvana much if at all - perhaps due in part to the original sails not yielding as much power as a set of custom sails, and therefore not being as responsive?? just sayin.................

Why not use a level?

I get it, but I do like pictures! Honestly, I can tell "straight" from a block away!

I watch the guys in our local sailing club set up their boats and I have never seen any one of them pull out some "divining-rod" quizzmo to set up their mast.

Most of them are not using rigging screws, turnbuckles or other devises. They are bowsie guys. They are mostly old people too.

I use the SS goodies cause they look good! I also think they are better for my purposes. That's my story and I'm stickin to it!

Crash - is that guy in the Yellow boat last or is he lapping the field?
Did you get your new boat and did it come with servos?

Crash,
if you have a 3 way laser level, set in on the flat part of the deck, or the rail, square the boat on the stand...fore, aft. port starboard, so the boat is plumb.

Reset the mast accordingly. square it up to the boat, as you already have the boat level on the two planes.

the tip of the mast will always give some, but, it should, unless yours is filled like mine is, if not, as long as the mast stays plumb with the boat for at least half the mast length, you're good...

Next time I gotta build something, I'll just stop by the nursing home, and borrow a eagle eye..
