Sokol build tips and hints
After years of having a Sokol Pylon racer sitting in my garage I'm finally building it.
What I'm after are some hints about how to throw it together. In particular where to place the servos and receivers and how to fasten it into place. I.e do I use CA, epoxy silicone glue from the hardware store.
I know these questions border on the basic to plain silly but I figure a wise man learns from others and does his homework.
By the way this is the setup I intend to run,
Mega 16/15/4 (I'll move on to a 16/15/3 once I'm used to it!)
Prop : 4.7x4.7
Battery: LiPo 3S1P 2200mAh.

Here is a photo of the servo installation for the ailerons:
You can wrap the aileron servo with masking tape and then glue it in with epoxy or goop
The elevator servo is mounted just aft of the trailing edge of the wing.Wrap the servo with tape and glue it in with goop. The goop can flex during a hard landing allowing the servo to still stay in place.
Mount/place the receiver next to the elevator servo. The receiver needs to be placed as far away from the speed control as possible.
The speed control is mounted/connected directly behind the motor.
Your power set up is fine. The fir4st flight/launch is always a challenge!~

here's some pics of mine. I don't suggest cutting the hot air exit holes, its just what I did. I used a good drop of exopy on my elevator horn, as I didn't want to lose the elevator at top speed. (make sure you wet inside the elevator with epoxy to make sure good adhesion. My friend also used that much epoxy and his has been clocked at 299kph.
The little hole below at the back of mine is the exit for the areal. I have my reciever behind the elevator servo it is tricky, but you can just get it in and out. 'Shhhhhh' probably has the best idea with the reciever and servo next to each other...Make sure to glue the push rod tube along its length down the fuse, maybe dribble some CA down there, it needs to have NO play in it if you are trying to achieve fast speeds, as my mates and I have found that it will get 'spongey' at high speed. I can't emphasis this enough.....lube the elevator wire. I spray silicon down mine. Otherwise, it may have a little pit of stick and you will be putting in elevator , getting no reaction, so you will add more with no reaction, then you will add more and the friction on the wire will all of a sudden release and you will get mega elevator...not fun at high speed.
Sand the inside of the fuse to make sure the epoxy will stick...you don't want to lose the elevator mid flight.
One last thing... I suggest to paint the wing to get some contrast happening. I found the white wing reflected the blue sky and because the wing is small it can get easy to lose.

I prefer this ball link system to control the ailerons. With the standard straight wire linkage I noticed some strain on the sevo horns and wire. Also the aileron sometimes did not return easily to its center position. The ball linkages I borrowed from my heli set up. Works super smooth!!

To make the first few flights a bit less of a challenge, I would like to suggest using a 6x4 prop instead of a 4.75x4.75 or 5x5. The 6x4 prop will deliver significantly more thrust -i.e., MUCH easier launch- and you will loose just a bit of speed. Once you are comfortable launching the Sokol, you can move to a 4.75x4.75 Graupner carbon prop.
