My first really FPV flight

This is my first actual FPV flight.

I'm using 500mWt 900Mhz video link with kx151 and 8dbi patch from rangevideo,
VirtualRealities' goggles modified for 69mm IPD, Aiptek DVR, my heli DX7 radio with AR6200 rx.

Thanks to this forum for all information.

EZ Star FPV 122907 (7 min 16 sec)

On this video the furthest point I dared to fly is a bit more then 0.5 mile and signal stayed good and clear (both video and rc). But then on half way back (staring from 4 min.) I was experienced several rc hits. My rx went to fail-safe mode. I have no idea what it was, may be interference with radio relay beams... It was pretty scary to loose rc control.

Is there any ideas how to check safe range of my setup without risking of loosing the ship? After reading that DX7 with AR7000 and similar video gears can get one mile range I'm kind of disappointed in mine results.

Edit: there was some wind gusts but EZ Star can handle it pretty nice.

That's pretty good for your first flight. congrat's It seemed cloudy where you were, the better the weather the better your reception. Also flying around populated areas give more room for interference.

Thanks Bulldozer. Yup, weather was muggy but hits were at 0.3 mile distance when I flew above certain houses... They must have keep the microwave ovens doors open .

Hard to tell from the video, but were the "hits" to your R/C gear limited to the motor cutting out or were there also control inputs?

If it's just the motor issues, I'd look at the ESC first. Alot of low throttle operation can actually generate a fair amount of heat.

Nice flight.

Hepdog,
I'm using AR6200 rx (spektrum 2.4). When motor is cutting out there are no input controls as well. Rx went to fail-safe mode due to some weird interference.

It's still mystery for me. I put rc rx directly under video tx antenna and as far as I can. But I'm thinking are there any other ways to place components on EZ Star?
