What’s a good ESC with governor?

I am looking for a good sensorless controller for my Voyager. I need one with a governor mode.

What works well with the voyager? Where should I purchase it?

I am looking at the Castle Creation Phoenix line (maybe the new 45). I have seen comments that the governor mode does not work well. Is this true?

I've personally used Kontronik Smile 40's and 3SLH 30 amp high voltage ESC's and the Schultze 45HE and been happy with them all. Others report good luck with the new Hacker Master series heli ESC's.

No personal experience or overheard comments on the Pheonix. Other Castle stuff I've used has been good so I'm a little skeptical of complaints but - I don't know...

I use a couple of the Kontroniks and Shulze units. Had trouble with 1 Smile 40-6-12, but the Beat replacement has been flawless Some have issues with the Shulze's.

I just got a Phoenix 45 but have not set it up. If it is like other CC products, I will be happy.

The VE only needs about 30 amps so the P35 may be a good choice, and it is light and priced nice.

Actually, there was a problem in the Phoenix controllers with hard starting in governor mode in the early versions of the Phoenix -- but anything built after October this year has the new software with the governor mode problems fixed.

Thanks Patrick,

I was looking for more information on the 45. I have heard that it has much more BEC capability. I was concerned about running 4 servos and a gyro with a 35 on 8 to 10 cells.

RC man---

The 45 has the same BEC capacity as the 35 (3.0 amps) but has even better heat sinking for the BEC than the 35. The 45 has two full 3 oz copper planes throughout the board, and the BEC chips are separated much farther apart on the board. This allows the 45 to supply more power from the BEC on a continuous basis.

Thanx!

Very refreshing to here someone admit that there was a problem
and it makes me believe them when they say they've fixed it.
I've personally never had a problem with any of my CC stuff.

Hi Hank,

We're in the process of changing over to a new website. Try:

www.castlecreations.com

instead of castlerc.com

Patrick,

Can an earlier Phoenix-35 be updated to the new software? I've got a couple from early summer that I'd love to have the new software on.

TIA!
