I modded mine with a rudder. Its a simple mod to do while building, theres plenty of room to run a wire right along with the ESC channeling. Without rudder for landing in cross winds i think my J-10 would be dead by now. One other thing i did was to add a piece of carbon fibre to the wing tips, with the rear wheels at stock location this model tips over very easy and chews the wing tips off. I moved my rear wheels farther out to the side and a tad bit farther aft, that pretty much stopped the tip overs. If you fly off of debri filled runways its a good idea to use a wire mesh to cover the cheater hole. I blew two fans up from the nose wheel kicking up a piece of gravel. And magnets at the rear of the hatch works well in combination with the plastic snap in front.

I had a GWS J10 running 4s 2650 30c, using a het 2w-20 and 70mm edf. It was my first edf jet, and it flew beautifully. Also bent up new u/c with thicker wire, as the stock stuff was thin and bigger wheels wouldn't fit the diameter. I also did the rudder mod, made the turns alot nicer in the air

Yes I had cut some foam out of the battery bay so the battery would fit. I currently live in Hamilton, I don't belong to parkflyers but am a regular visiter to the site

I am not sure how many thrust that you able to get from GWS EDF75 with other motors?

But, I like to tell you how GWS EDF75 recently had tested with proto type brushless outrunner motor to get such result:

EDF75 4 blades: 1728g at 5 cells 81A ( 1498W ) 3260KV
EDF75 4 blades: 1180g at 4 cells 50.2A ( 743W ) KV=?

Any one here may be even already got better test datas?

Hope this increasing of speed and thrust will bring GWS EDF75 powered models up grade their performance a lot!

However, need to be careful not to bent the wings!

Question for those of us who built J-10 as a belly lander. How did you protect depron tail fins? I'm thinking of addng a drop tank or may be missiles, but I can't find any that would look right. Mr. Lin talked about a missile set for a while, but I don't think that ever got produced?

Good to see this thread is not dead. I got mine last year and started the build a couple of weeks ago. I plan the following modifications:

Electric retracts
Thrust Vectoring
Rudder
Lights

I plan to use an RC-Lander 4000KV EDF on 4S.

I was planing on rudder, some 8~10 blade EDF and retracts but retracts will depend on how havie they are. And of course FPV

thanks for the info, too bad HK don't have the Oleo leg in stock i have to find another supplier im not decided on the EDF unit jet but i definitively want 8 blades on it to get a nice sound. I will keep searching

the EDF is a plastic 70mm cyclon with 10 blades impeller to run on 5S and 6S i will probably use 5S batt.
