I just became a proud new owner of a GWS J10 and wanted to ask a few questions.

I've read through most of this thread and I see a lot of upgrades to the motors, fans and housings. Some pretty expensive, or a little on the high side.

Is the 2815-2A red, which I read is better then the first motor, it has a bit more power, ok for this plane?

OR should I just sink the money into it and get HET setup, I'm not looking for max speed but would like to do some aerobatics and unlimited with it.

I can't say about the red but a het in it makes it scream! A cheaper alternative is the turnigy 3200kv edf motor about 17.00 from HK put that in a 6904 fan and youll get about 2.5 thrust @ 60 amps not as much as the het but you can buy three for the same cost. I have one in a 6904 fan in my starmax 70mm F5 and it flys nice and did not break the bank! I put it in a year and a half ago and was going to use it until I could afford a HET motor but it has flown so nice I never bothered upgrading it.

Thanks for the reply, I was considering on selling the kit since it sounded like it would be so much trouble to get some decent performance out it unless you went with the real expensive equipment. Maybe I'll keep it now and give it a try.

What size batteries do you run in yours? I've read through this whole thread and honestly it seems more like an experimental aircraft, no two birds the same...lol

I built one for A4 speed junky he was too busy with work to get it done. I had to save the inside walls before building it but he ran a 3600 4s 30c pack ,2w20,6904 fan. Made the canards working the only mistake was we used STD naros and one burned out after about 5 flights. Crashed and was repaired but the canards were glued in place after that! If you make working canards go with the digital NAROs or you will be doing crash repair work! Give it lots of elevater but about 60% on the ailerons so it won't be so twitchy. I really liked his bird back several pages were some pics of it. I shot it standard MIG silver and used the red star decals that did not have the bars with them. I liked it it looked like a new fighter delta with canards but also kind of retro like a MIG because of the color scheme! Even with a big cheater hole this plane shagged arse! http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...788913&page=61

Where did you find the turnigy 3200kv I've looked all over HK and can't find it, do you mind sending me a link?

Ah alright, thanks for the link, I guess the cat is out of the bag about that nice little motor.

I've got about 4 planes to build right now so I'm not in a big hurry for the motor, or so I keep telling myself. When I get ready for it I'll see if they got any in, I know they are upgrading a lot of the turnigy motors too so maybe they have a new model of it coming out soon.

I just hate ordering from HK if an item is on backorder, you could get it in 2 weeks or 2 months.

J10 with EDF75 already much faster than A4 and A10.

Pretty speedy one.

Bored looking around HK and found this little motor, read some reviews and it sounds like it can handle 500-600 watts or more, heli motor or not it could do the trick

still keeping my eye out for the other motor also, I might start putting together an order from HK and grab this motor for testing.

The Turnigy Typhoon 2218H is a nice motor. It's actually ~3750Kv so it should pull 420W+ on 3S, and it will (just) fit into a GWS EDF75 or HET 6904.

It's a bit tricky to install because the shaft is 3mm internally, but necks out to 3.17mm at the front. Even after removing the circlip from the shaft, you cannot pull the bell off because the shaft won't go through the front bearing! You will have to press the shaft out of the bell from the rear (the bell has to be taken off to get the motor into the fan unit).

I replaced the shaft on mine with a straight 3mm one, to work with the stock EDF75. Compared to the GWS BLM009 it should give better performance at the same or lower current draw (hoping to get over 1:1 thrust/weight in my J10).

Hi Zach Dad,

You'll find it out from P.12 of this manual.
