Having the canards working is fundamental to the model flying well. I would not try them fixed unless you can be sure to get a very rear CG which you might be able to do if you don't have the canard servos. Wouldn't do it though. Kinda defeats the point of buying this model.

Nah, it will fly fine with the canards fixed. Many people have allready flown it that way. I agree though it would take away from the cool factor of this model. But if i was building it as a bullet ship i would fix them rigid and save weight.

What batteries are you guys flying with, I flew my J10 today with a 3s 4400 pack and it flew awesome.

I fly on a 2200mah 3s to keep it light. I have used a 3300mah 3s but performance isnt quite as good with the extra weight at least for me.

About 3 minutes maybe 4 minutes absolute tops. Im running the stock fan with 6 blade rotor and a 3800kv outrunner, a decent 70mm fan setup is the best option for this jet. 600 watts will fly this jet well.

I am running an HET 2w motor in an HET 6904 fan, it flys awesome and with a 4400 lasts over 7 minutes.

How did you manage to stick a 4400 in there? Or is it 2x2200 laid length-wise? If so, how's the cg? does it fly nose heavy?

I widened the bay with a soldering iron and placed it in flat, it fits fine, balances perfectly and handles the weight without a problem. I love the way my J-10 flies and with a 4400 battery I don't worry about running out of juice early. I picked up 5 4400 packes from Hobby City for $21.21 each, if you can believe that?

Each to his own, moving canards - or fixed. Personally I have installed them into quite a few Deltas including the Haoye J-10 and find they do add a little bit of an edge at high alpha recovery but generally have a minor effect like a 1/4 compared to the elevons. By setting the canards to be switch selectable, I found I could fly with them both on and off and compare. Having done that, I agree with CRAY, and now building my GWS j-10 with fixed canards. Also closing the bottom cheater hole to preserve the high pressure zone under the wing and adding two top/read/side cheaters similar to the Guai tigershark delta which is a very fast EDF on low power. How thin are these wing tips and fragile too - and the sharp leading edges? The Haoye wing is fantastic in the air and has a more conventional rounded leading edge, thicker - maybe i'll add a sheet of depron on the underside which needs cleaning up and shape these GWS j-10 wing tips properly. Love the 2 pilot canopy - nice work GWS!

The wing tips are very thin and fragile. Mine tipped onto a wing while slowing down after landing and it ground about 3/4" off the wing tip. I then moved the rear gear farther aft and outwards a bit to prevent it from tipping any more. Im surprised this model isnt more popular. You can buy it A/F only and build it any way you like, tons of options for power setups.

Hey Cray - Artech had some good ideas (not many) and one of them was hard plastic molded wing tips on their little SU-27. Took all the minor tip scrapping and saved the wings. If you were going to sell paper thin wings GWS maybe supply a plastic part in V2 which is molded to fit over the leading edge and wing tip?
