My J-10 Fan unit lists 830 grams at 11.1 volts and S/N 75000698. I will test the unit on a 2250 mAh 25 C battery tomorrow.

830g/29.8 oz. thrust on 3 cells? Is this an installed in airframe number or just bench in open air?

Heh heh. I only have a room for all my planes and books. I need a larger room. Maybe I will commandeer the back kitchen : it's 32ft x 15ft. Ugghh, no, on second thoughts. There are snakes (cobras etc) just behind the backyard walls due to undeveloped land that's full of underbrush (a mini jungle). Sometimes they climb over on branches. They are not so bad if you know they are they. It's when you don't realize that they have hidden themselves in the nooks and crannies or under you computer table, that when it's a problem. Shudder!

Mr Lin (or Chen),

Will this new version handle 4S? I ask as the BLM005a's are also about 3800kv and will handle 4S.

Also, when do you expect these new motors to land in the US? I have one for the J-10, but will need one for the A-4 also.

Thanks.

IMHO, if you use 4 blade 70mm fan like HET 6904, instead
of the 4 balde 75mm GWS fan then it should be OK using
4S, especially with that new nice GWS heat sink

As an Earlybird member, I like to use GWS stock parts as much as possible so that I may make an accurate report on the kit and the power system. If I find power lacking on initial flights, I can always change out for something with more gusto.

But if the new motor will take 4S, it should have plenty of giddyup. Even on just 3S it may be OK as GWS testing shows almost a 1:1 T/W ratio.

it's all up to you.
But Mr Lin gave it a red light on 4S

BTW, I only love stock foam with some modification, no matter GWS or not

Well, his post that said 4S was bad was based on a 4100kv rating. Now it seems closer to 3800kv. It would be nice to be in the 1K club, but I guess I can settle for 830g.

well then just do the red parts: STOCK ONLY AND BE HAPPY
why care for the 4S then.

Yes, but stock has nothing to do with battery size. If the motor will handle 4S, why not use it? But if the fan system/motor won't handle 4S, I'll stick with 3S.

I too would prefer to go 4S if the system can handle it. More speed. Cooling is usually pretty good for edf. I think this fan unit provides quite good cooling for the motor as the is a large gap between the hub/rotor and the stator and there are all those cooling holes in the motor. Should give the windings/magnets a good breeze, don't you think?

GWS manual on this 2815 motor states: Optimal power is 400 watts.
12 volts draws 38 amps out put 450 watts and 735 grams (26oz) of thrust.
So I guess we can push to 4S (13+volts) at 500 watts short bursts,
not always WOT and use their new heat sink for safety's sake.

However another user just posted that
with 3S 2200 lipo (10V) the motor draws 37 amps, put out 375 watts

So... Give 4S a try then

I'll try to bench test my fan before installation. My rotor housing says 850g tested thrust.

BTW, both this plane and the A-4 definitely have a "presence". I'm not used to GWS planes this big!
