Still Experimenting

Rearranged the 72mHz Rx this norning and added a wood extension onto the bumper to increase the dist. between my Vid Tx and RC Rx. I did a test run and all seemed much improved. I now have approx. 15" between my Vid. Tx and RC Rx antennas. After a couple more test runs with video on I am surprised to note that my range with the 72 mHz is no more that 100 ft increase over the 2.4. I am runnig the same circuit and keeping the truck approx in the same foot prints each time.

After running the 72 mHz for a few more laps, I removed the 72mHz RC gear and re-installed the 2.4Gig RC gear. I ran a few test runs and I noted that there was not a noticable difference (maybe 50-75 ft) in range between my 72 mHz and the 2.4 Gig. I did note however that the ESC did not seem to have the throttle resolution with the 72 gear that it demonstrated with the 2.4 gear. I definitly had more resolution in speed with my 2.4.

These results were most disappointing. I expected to see a huge increase with my new (used) 9c 72 mHz gear. I still received much more glitching with my 72 MhZ and did still have the situation of the truck starting in reverse while the throtlle stick was in the neutral position.

TIP- If you dont have a hot glue gun...then get one...these things are great for temporaraly mounting componenets and removing and re-locating for test purposes. Best thing since bread...

Hi guys, perhaps a silly question, but:
Should I be using a certain type of crystals in my tx/rx
FP-R138DF dual conversion rx
T6EXAP tx
Im using new crystals that the guy in the shop gave me, i presume he knew what he was doing. I.e I presume they are dual conversion, how do i tell?

Someone suggested i may have been overloading the rx with power from the esc, so i disconnected the red wire to cut the power, and used a separate 6volt battery to power the servos/rx. No difference though.

Cheers guys.

Ive just about tried all other options, moving rx, disconnecting battery etc.
and ive read a few threads about radios but its all a little over my head.

JST,
I dont get it, 72Mh should eat 2.4 range on ground for breakfast.
Last idea, double length of receiver antenna, and have as much of it sticking up vertical as you can.?

You are using PCM?

Stylish187,
I think the futaba dual conversion recievers have orange on the tabs, have a look on the futaba website.
Its pretty whack, you guys should be having this much trouble.

Well, i got my broadband back, and put a video up, episode 4
I liked the song, and been waiting to use it for a while.
cheers

I just finished modifying my monster onto its newest form. I call it "Monster Mk. 2" It now has Eagle Tree OSD pro and data logger, 1000mW 900Mhz Tx, 6-channel JR radio and two 55t crawler motors. Its alot better than last years version. The next upgrades will include spools front and rear, a 360 degree servo, roll bar, 2-speed upgrade, and a better deck. I hope to record a video soon! Its been a while since th "Maiden Voyage." Hope ya'l enjoy.

Looks great Honda.
1000mw outa do the job for sure.

That tiny eflight 3S pack is not going to last long is it?

I really like those tyres, especially as they look pretty narrow.
It may be the camera making them look so?

Have you got a link to those wheels/tires please?

thanks in advance.

cheers

The 3s does pretty well. My runs are usually not more than 10 minutes so it hasn't caused any problems for me. I haven't tried to see how long it will last.

Here is a link for the tires. They are 3.14" wide
http://www.rc4wdstore.com/2/product_...roducts_id=430

I bought the rims on ebay. I thought they were actual pro-line beadlocks but they turned out to be knockoffs. I really want a set from RC4WD. They make some very nice rims. But they are pricey.

The Novak 6.5T with a 13 tooth pinion screams !
The Led's have been installed and also the camera gear. Using a 7c Futaba with a large booster installed. I hope to get pretty good range. FPV coming soon. Here is a video taken from a Quadrocopter in a tunnel because of the rain. Enjoy.

Hey SimonJardine.
I liked your vid.
Your Quadrocopter is so stable. Its as if its being run on a fly by wire for a movie.
I also found some of your other videos on Vimeo, brilliant. People love things that hover, right?

Tell us more about your GPS positioner. that was too cool.
Also one of the vids it looked like an octocopter? 8 motors?

(The Novak 6.5T with a 13 tooth pinion screams !)
Sounds like a swarm of wasps... cool

Cheers

Hey Hondajd7.
Intrigued, Ive been studying your e-maxx top deck used to mount your camera.
Is is hardboard?

Last night I drew up this template to take to a metal shop to get cut from aluminum....

I know the alloy may cause problems with reception but im a alloy man if you know what i mean.
What are your thoughts? any tips?

If anyone can suggest a good material? I can either cut it myself, or to get cut.
I'd appreciate the advice, but i need it to look sexy when finished if you know what im saying, form AND function and all that.

If anyone wants to use my template feel free
The hole in the middle will allow the motors to poke through if you need to lower the center of gravity.... i.e. if like me all your components are heavy.

Cheers

update
by the way i realize that the deck will be quite weak with only 20mm of linkage in the middle, so ive also ordered a set of these to stiffen it up, they should fit nicely along either site of the deck

All alloy will clearly look cool even it doesn't work....

i think its a clipboard...

if alloy is your thing, just cut it from aluminum plate. it cuts easily with a jigsaw and the right blade!

have you ever done any aluminum polishing? i have a feeling you would dig it.
