I have the Gopro installed on the top front roll bar, the VTx tie wrapped on the bottom of the rear roll bar and I tape the 3S 500 mAh to the top.I use the GoPro live out. the camera is connected with a servo connector so i can switch easily to an FPV cam for night runs.

On the Tonka summit thread, calidave went pretty far with 5.8 Ghz in open ground. Not good with objects. replayreb went pretty far with 1.2 Ghz and standard omnis. I plan on trying my 1.3 Ghz but need a filter for the 2,4 ghz radio though.

Its pretty easy to try your equipement on a car. I'd give it a try before buying anything else. Low cost experimenting is fun, and even close to you there is a lot to explore with a surface vehicle
Thanks so much for the reply! I'll definitely have to check it out. I have two complete FPV 5.8 GHz setups so it's fairly easy to move things around. I can attach a system to a car with little trouble to test before I buy anything. Goggles are expensive and I didn't want to buy anything additional without testing first. Thanks again!

Got to get an RC car now - one that's good outdoors, all year round, including snow. Suggestions anyone?

Someone suggested the 1/10 Traxxas Summit. I don't think I need that much car though, just to carry FPV about my yard, all year long.
if you want something that is ok offroad, and pretty fast onroad too, for cheap, try the 1/16th scale electric buggies from nitrorcx. they are $89 rtr, and mine has been pretty much indestructible.

You can start cheap. I tested my first FPV system running it on a Mini Mauler truck, in the house, connected to my 32 " cathodic Sony Was fun sitting downstairs while the truck ran in the house upstairs chasing my daughter

LOL, this was 2 years ago and check the comment at the end

Thought I would put a quick video together of driving my Trailblazer XB around my track.
A good demonstration on the benefits of using a gyro for Camera stabilisation.
This is seriously fun!

Turn down your audio a little though - it comes in a bit loud!

It's like the Clone movie but with a truck instead. They go out while you stay inside.

1st Gen. Chainlink UHF. I can get 700m clear line of sight, after that its Pffft, nothing.
My 800mW 1.3ghz video however wont even give up after 1.3 miles after which I got tired of walking in 100 degree heat.
So this control issue is really cheesing me off. I wanna drive my sweet tonka summit!
Im thinking of maybe sticking a lowpass filter on my UHF receiver, but I dont know if that ll solve anything.

Possible the 1.3 at that power range interferes with the UHF. 1.3 miles is quite a range on surface, what antena do you use on your VTx and VRx ?

Its a bit gimmicky looking, but here is the antenna positioning:

The brace is there to mimmick where the antennas would be on my large "final" truck, a fancy tonka body summit.
I did a test mount on my 1:16 car before drilling mounts onto the tonka body permanently.

This is the actual footage while driving:
HK Truck FPV - Testing Gear (11 min 12 sec)

Mind you, the 1.3 mile range is clear line of sight, sitting on a long stretch of countryside road.
For controls I only get half of that, clear line of sight.
Urban its just about 500 feet with a house or two in between before video packs in.
You can see in the video.

Antenna is 1280MHz cloverleaf TX and planarwheel RX (16dBi patch gave crap results for some reason).
UHF antennas are I think 5dBi on my TX, and 7dBi on my RX.
Applied filters are high pass on vRX, low pass on rcTX.
UHF transmits on 200mW, as 500mW mode makes the video pack in.
