The white LEDs are the brightest by far. Followed by blue, green, and red (in that approximate order). You do want to be concerned about weight on smaller planes. My 33" 3DHS Extra has 180 lights on it and I could definitely feel the weight after I added them. It still flies pretty good and is a little better in a breeze, but it was noticeable. I also had to add some bracing to the wings! The Hacker motor I had on it was OK before I put the lights on, after that vertical performance was noticeably retarded. There would be a number of ways you could "tone down the brightness" if you found it to be too much. A small GWS brushed ESC is one way. You could also probably do something with some diodes as well.

I sure enjoy the night flying in the hot summer! I've flown 10 times as much at night as I have in the day for the past few months! Lots o fun...

My old T-rex 450 night flyer initially had the canopy and boom lights rinning off the main 3s pack. But the halo effect was terrible! Orientation was almost impossible!

Solution was a small 250mah 2s pack velcroed underneath.

My Parkzone T-28 equipped for night. Running directly off the 3S balance connector for now. I'd like to add a brushed speed control soon to dim it down a bit for flying in total darkness.

Put 4 batteries through it last night -- I *love* this. Very cool.

I did a double foamy build. One has a RGB controller. It was a lot of extra work to wire 3 circuits but it has some nice effects. It has dimming, strobe, chase and random flash, plus 12 combinations of on/off.

The second one I put a strip of LED behind the fuse brace. It looks like a flourescent light bulb. On the SFG I put a line one inch above the wing, so it shines on the wing and fuse. I like this one the best.

I can tell a lot of effort went into the last three posts!!! They all look great!

I always wanted to put strips like you did on the bottom of your wing, but MAN is that a lot of soldering!!!!!!!

Has anyone tried mounting LED on white EPP foam with the LEDs facing inward? It seems like most of the light would still make its way through the foam, although it would be scattered in more directions.

Yes, it works great. Makes a nice effect. Have seen several Fun Cubs done that way.
