Just getting into night flying and setting up one of my planes. So far have the wing just about done except for the strobes on the tips. I'm using a .25 size world models P47 which is powered by an OS 40 LA.

Looks real nice Nins, I look forward to watching this one come together

Harry~ I am curious what your power requirements are for your lights? What capacity and how many cells are you using? Are you using separate power source for lights? and finally, how much time do you get with the lights on?

On Burned Retina, I always use separate battery for LED power but I also needed the nose weight desperately. I use primarily 3s 500mAh batteries, but they will fade fast after 5 and a half minutes- very scary to land with no lights!

That right there is pretty bad ass looking! Like the color scheme!

So all I can assume is that you are using a standard solid white covering? If you had some type of clear or translucent then you would see more "hotspots" from the LEDs. That light looks very nicely dispersed.

KTMRacr you are correct, the covering is just plain white monokote. I wasn't sure how well the light was going to shine thru and thought I might have to go with a clear or translucent covering. I couldn't be happier with the white as it gave me the exact light disperment and look I was going for.

I was down for the 4th but didn't have a lot of extra time. Don't know when I'll be down again but I'll be sure to get in touch with you!

I just ordered one of these:

http://twistedhobbys.com/Telink-44-E...xtra-Slick.htm

Already got a bunch of lights in for it. Still loving my 3DHS 33" Extra, but looking for something a little bigger that still flies slow but might handle a little more wind.

I'll be posting pics in here for sure!

The wing now has strobes on the tips thanks to an LED controller from Bombay and I have added blue LEDs to the top of the wing to light up part of the fuse. Next is to remove the covering from the fuse and add more LEDs right now LED total is at 108.

LEDs on wing (0 min 27 sec)

44" Telink Extra Slick from twistedhobbys.com:

Maidened her tonight, IN THE DARK! It was a lot windier than I thought it was (15mph w/25mph gusts) so I only flew for a few minutes.

327 LEDs total. Wanted to put a some more on the tail, but I couldn't force myself to solder any more iddy biddy wires. I suppose if I really feel like they are needed, then I can add them on later.

You can get away with way fewer than that if you just want to fly at night. I have a few planes with 100 or less on them, and I can see them and keep them oriented just fine.

OTOH, if you want them to look AMAZING, you may want to add more.

I think im going to outline it but with the LEDs facing inward and on the leading edges. Its just white EPP so it should light up the entire plane

Be careful, I have a plane that is to bright to fly. It hurts your eyes to look at it.
