My new Silouette

I saw this plane and thought night flyer. Lights up great but flys very fast.
I may have eceded the intended wing load. though I don't think I've added
more than 6 grams?? anyone?

Looks nice. My flying buddy has one. What size battery are you using? I think it calls for a 600-750mah or something like that. It will handle much larger (1800mah), but the airframe is really not sturdy enough with that kind of weight if you happen to nose it in (guess how we know?). With a 600-750mah, it should be very light and pretty slow.

Here is my Sapac Pitts S-2a with 15 super-bright LEDs. Easy to orientate... good visibility to about 150ft.

And a quick test-flight here:

there are many great looking models here but i prefer scale lighting and it's really not as hard to fly as most think. I just use a model I am very familiar with and start at dusk then fly till dark. I started with a multiplex Easy Star modified with a REMfire outrunner and ailerons (very docile). Then I went to a local electrical suppplier and experimented with different bulbs and resistors combinations tapped into the speed controler

sorry about the enormity of the pics... eeek! not sure why they are so large.

I placed the typical nav lights with two tail lights and added a red strobe on the belly for looks. The landing lights are run on a separate ch with a micro switch and a micro servo.

led stryker

heres my stryker, modified it with plcc2 leds i had laying around, some 28awg wire some stripped lengths and some not stripped and good old cleear tape. felt cheap and didnt want to order the hobbycity/ebay ones tho they are already cheap and prob would save a lot more time than mine. i got the idea from some guys on youtube. should have good results as they are ultra bright. will post video once available. running off of lipo jst connector.

EPP Yak55 at Night

Hey kids...
Just wondering if anyone else has set up their Leadfeather EPP Yak55's for night flight?

I recently found the big fun of night flight with the LED strips from Hobby City. They're supper easy to wire in and work on 2 and 3 cell lipos (up to 12v max). They've turned 4:30pm dusk time to prime front yard fly time!!

Here's a couple of pics...

Peace,
D-Man

Nice job, D-Man. Your setup looks sweet. I've flown my Yak55 at night, but nothing as elaborate as yours. I just put on three temporary LEDs and flew it in close. By any chance, did you weigh it before and after to see how much net gain the lights added?

Thanks Darth,

Lights, wire and a GWS 8amp brushed ESC (used as an on/off switch on the gear channel) added just over an ounce in extra weight.

Current AUW with a 3s 800mAh battery comes to just under 10oz. Yes I know that's heavy for a EPP Yak. But I have no complaints.. it's an outside plane only and I'm getting 8-9 min of outstanding night time flight.

Heck... I've flown my yak with a 5oz 2000mAh battery before... these planes are amazing.
