Brushless options for Zagi 400x (1700AU)

Unfortunately, I have a couple of the
AU packs. Are there any brushless motors
that can run at or under 15 amps with a
say a 5x5 prop?

Bill,

Is that the reversed 'zagi' version of the
020? I'd like to use the normal version,
so it'll work for my other planes. What
prop are you considering?

Thanks

Keith

if you get a 020 with a gearbox just remove the gear box and walla you now have a reversed 020 for a zagi and when your done with the zagi put the gearbox back on and into another plane.......john

Sure, the Kontronik FUN400-23 motor would work well. Also Hacker makes 400 sized motors, the B40, in numerous different winds. Also Hacker has the B20's, but I believe they are too small for the Zagi. I have flown my Zagi with the Kontronik BL400-22, the predecessor to the FUN motor, and it was great. Also, with these sensorless motors reversal is as simple as it can get, just switch two of three wires.

Thanks Simon. Do you know where to buy
Kontronik and Hacker motors in the US.

I know that ICARE has them in Canada, so
I'll get one there if need be.

Kontronik's US agent is Northeast Sailplanes. I read recently that Electric Jet Factory is carrying Hacker, but when I looked at their site they only listed two or three that are good EDF choices.

You mentioned Icare. Gordon Tarling in the UK sells Hacker and takes Visa - so the currency conversion is easy. I just got a Hacker motor from him (for a project larger than the Zagi).

I use the regular 020 7 turn. However, I cut off the astro speed controller, and I removed the ribbon cable and sensor. I have a Jeti 18 amp sensorless controller comming soon in the mail. Its very easy to set which direction you want with a sensorless controller.

BillH,
Please let us know how the sensorless ESC works when you get it. I have a 7turn AF 020 BL in my FMA with a Grish pusher prop. There are not many choices in pusher props. I would consider the ESC if it works well..
Thanks,
Bill

Hey Uglyplane, I just got the speed control, I guess I'll try it out tommorow. It should work flawlessly. I just need to find some Loctite 370 so I can glue the back plate back on my motor.
