Thx mfr02 that explains it! Better 2 ask now than burn the boat up with a 24 volt short!

heavycruiser, my sydney star has 3 esc's and 6 fuses. 15a esc's with 3a output fuses, and 10a imput fuses, if motor stalls, fuse pops saving esc before it gets to the 15a limit, if esc goes mental and starts to draw, imput fuse pops killing esc power before boat goes smokey

no problem bruce

you may need to play around with fuse values to get a set up you are happy with, and if you want, you can always replace fuses with breakers.

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and have just read this thread. What a mine of information......For info, I am about to embark on my first RC build, I am going to build a Ticonderoga Cruiser, hence the screen name. The plan is to "animate" the 5inch guns, the twin arm launcher, aft radar running and special ops lights, deck landing lights, internal bridge red night lights and, bit ambitious, maybe the starboard anchor.

I am ex RAN, so if you ahve questions about what mast head, stern light, nav lights etc, mean I will be happy to answer. thanks for thifo so far, especially Ghost and Gill

tico welcome to RCG, we hope to see your build soon.

get a mode3 radio where you can have elevon mixing on the left stick. this will help you when it comes to control as you can use ELEVON mixing to put the motors on one stick, save buying additional hardware

Any good 6-12 channel computer radio will have enough mixes to tie the ESC together. On one of my modelsI have 3 motors.
Radio: 8 channel Tracker III
ESC 1 in channel 3 (center motor)
ESC 2 in channel 6 (port motor)
ESC 3 in channel 7 (starboard motor)

Programe:
P-mix 1, channels 3 & 6 @100%
P-mix 2, channels 1 & 7 @100%
P-mix 1 & 2 on function switch A
----------------------------------
P-mix 3, channels 1 & 6 @50%
P-mix 4, channels 1 & 7 @-50%
P-mix 3 & 4 on function switch B

Operation:
1. Function switchs A & B off
Center motor only
Controled by left stick

2. Function switch A on
All 3 motors work together
Controled by left stick

3. fuction switch A off
Function switch B on
Port and starboard motors
controled by right stick (rudder)

Thanks Gill,

It should be straight forward to be able to handle both engines independently of each other then. i.e slow ahead starboard, slow astern port to swing the stern in going alongside starboard side to.

well originally a wiring thread, now radio set up, ho hum!!

Tico. if you get a Futaba 6EX radio 2.4ghz, you can put esc's in ch1 and 2, and engage "elevon" mixing, turn radio off, press and hold [mode] & [select] when you are powering up and you will see a number, probably 2, push [data entry] until you get "3", turn off radio and reboot radio as normal. you now your motor control MIXED and back on the left stick.

more Coffee, if you add a mixer between the ESC's and RX you will get that exact effect and it will be more controllable, and it removes the need for a load of connections. if your radio has in-built software mixes, you could use them
