It's already on ebay !
I will probably end up buying one ;-)
The SE5a is one of my favorite plane...
So this one is supposed to have the same good fly quality as the Jenny ?
How come the proposed e-flite 250 motor is so expensive ? Is it any good ? Can't we find a cheaper one with same caracteristics ?

Got my SE5a today!

Picked up mine this evening at the LHS. 99% built tonight, need to thread
the wing support wires to finish up. Will maiden in the morning.
I am using an Eflite 300 motor, with a 3 cell 730. Overkill for sure but I had
this setup in my Pico-cub and works great.
More Tomorrow!

They should be in most stores by now, they shipped early this week. It flies better than the Jenny I believe with the greater dihedral amount.

Great little airplane.

I had a great time flying it this morning! My friend has the Jenny and we both had fun flying them around. Everything about the build went smooth even though I had to adapt the motor to fit. Mounting the wings could have been a little easier if the holes were pre drilled, kinda hard to align. The instuctions were very good, probably the best I've seen. I would definately recommend the 250 or simular as it has plenty of power and also be able to use a smaller battery. The only other mod I did was to use spiderwire for the wing wires, had some from fishing.
Heres what I used
Eflite 300 out runner
thunderbird 9 ESC
gws reciever
futaba 3114 servos
TP 730 3 cell
flying weight 9.3 oz./ 266g

Could you post a picture of the rudder where the horn attaches, they said they made it stronger on the SE5A

Ultima,
I like the Eflite motors, a little overpriced, but thats basically all the LHS stocks. I have many different brushless motors and Love them all.
The Futabas I believe are 7 grams.

Doc,
Here's a pic of the rudder, they just added a piece of clear plastic on it and the elevator. It should hold for a while.

In another thread the Jenny didn't seem to perform quite as well as the Pico Moth (not as nimble). I was considering the SE5 as a replacement for my dear departed Moth because I like WW I birds better so I have been waiting.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

As far as scale looks, these can't be beat for a foamy I don't think these are as floaty or nimble as the moth, though mine is a little on the heavy side. I have a Pico-moth on layaway for Xmas that I have a lighter setup for. I was just thinking I should try it in the SE5a. HTH

Hi Greg!

Like you, I was also looking for a WW1 plane as a Moth replacement. I nearly got the Jenny, then saw that this was coming out. There are now several of us in the Omaha area getting these to fly indoors this winter. How about getting one, and joining us for indoor flying on Wednesdays?

BTW, we're also going to start having "dusk patrols" at Cobras R/C Field south of Council Bluffs, Iowa starting April 6th, 2008. This plane looks like it will be a perfect "sunset flyer".
