Build Off II, Savoia Marchetti S65 ; Schneider Trophy Racer

I had so much fun in the last contest ( Burgess Dunne ), I couldn't resist another go !

Since I live on a lake in the frozen north , I picked a float plane , this one is kinda unique , I hope I can do it justice ( and I hope it will fly )

Incidently the Burgess Dunne is a good flyer , ROW's well , has even done loops , but haven't had the nerve to try a roll .

I forgot to mention this will be 1/12 scale , the same as the Burgess Dunne, and will be foam and bamboo .

Welcome to the madness V2!

Looks like a good subject. Should be a great plane if it comes out like your Burgess Dunne. Good luck, I'll be watching!

Another great subject! Maybe for the next build-off we can go for seaplanes? I was a fan of the Burgess Dunne, this one looks just as interesting.

Not only is it interesting, but it appears to have great proportions for a model!
I'm signed on for the ride!

A small start on the fuse .

Interesting in that it is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom.

It is , in fact , the same in cross section as the V12 motors ( 1000 HP each )

The motor oil pans are the outer skin of the fuse at the front and back.

The pilot is sandwiched inbetween the motors ( better him than me ! )

The fuse is only 12' long , 12" for the model.

Since there are no flat surfaces I am building with a central horizontal crutch, and a lower vertical spine ( not there yet .

I hope I can keep it all square and straight.

Added lower vertical spine , two formers to be added , these formers will be a sandwich of 1/16 th ply and foam .

The motors will attach to these ply formers.

The next step will be to sand the crutch , formers and spine to the final shape and then skin it with 3/16 foam.

Am glad someone is using foam. Something I want to try in the near future. Will it be sheeted with foam as well?
