Hi albert, very nice salto, I want one, I will buy it soon, just one advise, the very problem with these kits as in all the T-tails is where the fuselage joint the tail, in almost every hard landing it always breaks, so you could reinforce that part in your models and that would be great.

Some of the "other" models that are produced by the manufacturer have "T" tails, and they seem notoriously weak at the tail section of the fuse. He's thinking if these are also weak back there..., etc.

Well, that's not what he said........and a T-tail ship has a far different load placed at the fin/boom junction then does a V-tail ship........

Sure, right, certainly, the load is different on a T than a V tail. I guess Iwas more over addressing the relevance in his concern that perhaps the fuse could be weak/thin near the tail (generally speaking), rather than point out that a Salto doesn't have a T tail.
Anyway, Cheers & Happy Holidays |

fuse of the Salto seem to be stronger than the DG1000 and the ASW28.

I think the V-tail of Salto will not be changed . . .
I will post out the data of the proper C.G. and AUW later coz the prototype Salto is in the factory right now. Albert |

I received my Salto tonight. Well packed and no damage. The Salto has always been one of my favorites and this is a great looking toy version of that famous glider. Not exactly 'Scale' but it looks great.
All comments have to be taken in light of the fact that this pre-fabbed glider only cost me $200. Canadian dollars shipped and landed. The left wing panel weighs 420 grams and the right 466 which I will balance out during assembly, IMO the fuselage is a bit lite in some area but seems strong enough...there's a bit of oil canning when pressed but the ply fuse formers keep things together nicely. IMO the V-stabs are heavy, I haven't weighed them yet but they feel very hefty, maybe it's just that I always build my own from blue foam and Kevlar and they come out extremely lite but it feels like a fair amount of weight could be shaved from them. The carbon wing rod is nice but I'll replace it with a hardened steel one as I have more faith in steel in this app. at 10mm thickness. Great accessory set and this really is an ARF with everything but radio gear included...except for some reason I did not receive a manual. Not a big deal and if I need one I am sure they are available. Still hard to believe that I got all this for two hundred bucks and of course the proof will be in the flying but I think we'll be seeing a lot of these Salto's on the slope this Spring. T.D. |

Last night I was thinking of installing a set of air brakes (as on the full scale)on the Aero Fever Salto or maybe a canopy brake.
Instead I'm leaning toward a drag chute, see here for a full scale example:
This keeps everything clean and slows things down nicely which is very much needed at the slope I fly on. If I do it I'll post photos'. T.D. |
