I visited Flyfly factory on 2weeks ago and here are some manufacturing photos of the Salto. Any comments to this new glider are welcome, just let me know and I may report to the factory to make it better instead of such kinda of never-ending arguement.

Calm down, everybody!!

Albert

I've been tempted but I have a build queue at the moment and a birthday in February which might be about right so I'm waiting for reports too, but not, it seems from you

And there's Ming's Fox that's going to have to slide in somewhere..............
Roger, I started this thread to canvas opinion before I commit to one ! Didn't expect Steve et al to jump in so quick though.

I have an ASW 28 on the way so that will be my Xmas holiday project.

Just for interest sake and the good words regrading my general demeaner by those that have known me on here for awhile,
My Salto has just turned up at home so cant wait to get home to have a close look .
am expecting the same or better quality than the ASW28 or DG1000 Albert does take info back to the manufactures to improve the quality and fix weak points, so hopefully this will be the gun Sailplane .
SteveW never one to hold a grudge

G'day all,

Right - lets get this back on topic.......

I got my Salto last night - very quick delivery thanks Albert.

Had to do a really quick bench fly. Noice. The wings are definately heavier than the previous models and way more torsionally stiff.

Hmm. Can I fit this in before Camperdown?

Damaged goods.
on opening the box I found that the fuse had been damaged looks like a crushing of packing it is repaireable but dissappointing Albert. Pity really I know I would have to beef up the front of the the fuse but have to re paint it as well before I start now

Looks nice Steve! Too bad about the shipping damage; would you say it wasn't properly packed? If so, that's probably something Albert should be made aware of so they can be more careful in the future.

Packaging was pretty good really cant complain about that and it was clearly marked as fragile it consisted of the kit box incase in an 3/4 " styro case wrapped in what looked to be a heavy laminated paper like ummm roof sarking .Of course to most shipping companies fragile mean pack it at the bottom and stack as much heavy stuff as you can on it so it wont move ,that aside first impression is a good one the fuse is huge so the lay up oil cans pretty easy another layer of 8 oz glass just in these huge flattish areas and the high stress areas in the belly pan and nose would not hurt and would only at most add $20 extra to the kit surely ? The wings look solid and are heavier than the ASW or DG but about double the wing area.
the carbon joiner looks OK I'll give it a try but maybe I feel a little dry in its layup so maybe fairly brittle but we'll see. So apart from the damage which is a pain but an easy fix I'm pretty happy with bang for the buck. More to come later.

Oh sorry Steve about the damages. I may add some foam board surrounding the fuselage inside the box to prevent it happens again. It is seldom happening to our packing, u know. . . .

Good luck and let's bring this bird flying asap!!

Not yet its next on the boards but have a kiwi flying mate over at the moment so we are spending most of the time on the slope. I posted a vid from yesterday in the after we did the wing joiner mod on his CMPro Discus and he was wrapped in it.

Gotten the salto not too long ago! And here she is... ready to hit the local slope.. May i know if the recommended CG in the manual is correct? It says 60-64mm from the leading edge. I cant seem to achieve the recommended CG despite adding 450g (including receiver battery) to the nose (already pushed all the way in front). The weight of the plane excluding battery is 1660g. Anyone can help??

Don't worry, the one u saw in the prototype maiden video 2,250gram with a Steel wingjoiner. I will correct the factory specification . . .

I will build mine soon by the weekend and let's see.

wow 2250g..

Please let us know or show us some pictures of your build and how you'd balance the plane!

Anyway my wings came unbalance with 1 weighted 480g and the other 500g. Problem solved after adding 20g of lead weight into the servo placement area.
