TT Pro 46 vs Tower Hobbies 46

I know "what is the best 46 engine" has been talked to death on this group, but
I couldn't find the specific answer I wanted searching google.

I know that the Tower 46 with the tuned muffler is hard to beat in raw power,
but do they still have that problem of not shutting off because of air leaking
in the carb? If so I do have a carb from a OS 46SF that I could use, does the
OS carb fit the Tower 46?

I am leaning towards the TT Pro 46 (because of the Tower's carb problem) and
buying the tuned muffler for $12 from Tower. Is there any other 46 that I
should be looking at? The TT Pro 46 seems the best compromise between
reliablility, price and power (from what I read).

I have a Tower .46 and TT .46 Pros with and without the Tower muffler.

The TT .46 Pro with the Tower muffler is both powerful and user-friendly. I
don't think you'll regret choosing the TT.

Good flying,

Get a GMS .47. It has the same muffler that comes with the Tower 46, so you
get that raw power without having to spend an extra $12. You can get them
for $70 shipped from www.gmsengines.com.

Wow!

$70 shipped is a great price and I have heard that the GMS 47 is hard to beat.

Thanks for the website link, Most likely I will get the GMS now that I know
where to buy one for a good price.

get it while you can. The man who runs this site has informed us that GMS
may be changing importers soon, and he will no longer carry these engines.
It's the best price going. The best bang for the buck period. Not just the
..47, but the .76 and the 1.20 are also phenominal deals.

You should be looking at the GMS .47. More power than either of those and
costs about the same.

I can get them directly from China if the importer decides not to carry
them. AFIK, there are no exclusive deals for GMS engines (yet!)

I agree. I used to consider the TT the best bang for the buck, but a friend
got a GMS .47 and it has oodles of power.

Hey Paul, How do the GMS engines compare to the Raptor 46's that you use to
sell? I still have a Raptor NIB. Is this worth anything to a collector? Thanks,
Dan.

Sent my order for one. Hopefully I will receive it within a week or so. I
have a TT Tiger Stick waiting for a new engine.

Thanks everyone,

I know someone who wants to get a replacement for her husband's crashed one.
I could get you in touch if you are interested.

The GMS is very similar in power but does a little better with larger props
like the 11X6.

Good question! As times goes by, quality can change. So can user's
experience. It doesn't hurt for someone to ask every few months.

Problem's not the carb. Probably won't fit anyway. OS carb is probably 3/4
the price of the whole Tower engine. Unless you have an old OS carb laying
around, don't go there.

Unless something's changes since I tested those engines, it's a good
strategy. Use good quality muffler bolts that won't stretch.

Depends on how much money you want to spend.

OS .46Fx-.50Sx, Rossi .46-.53, Webra Speed .50-52AAR, Jett .46-50 are all
great engines.

GMS Info

The good GMS site address is www.gms-engines.com. I have tried the on-line order link a few times and it hasn't been selectable. TowerHobbies is the new GMS retailer. MECOA still sells a few of the lower sized models.
