What's the forecast looking like for tomorrow? I'm going to head out to blossom with a few buddies from work who are new to slope soaring... one of them is a car person the other a heli person... this should be interesting! Car guy has a wild wing rebuilt and the heli guy has a combat wings XR. I'm interested to see how the XR flies... should be pretty decent weight too...around 20-25 oz AUW.

Qualcomm-Wireless way

Mr. Wood,

I went over to that Qualcomm place about 2:30 yesterday. I have never been there before so I thought I'd give it a go. I didn't see anyone around and didn't really know where the flying spot is.

My son and I walked around and found a spot that had a little carpet on the edge and bench behind the lip. Is this the right spot?

That's the spot. Sorry I bugged out. I left just before you got there when I decided that the wind had gone too far west and went up to Dave's where it went quite north after an hour or so.
The LZ at Wireless is around to the right. A great place to land just about anything.

Going garage flying at the Maas household today in Corona. Wait 'til you guys see what I bring back.

Local slopers head north. Find Gold!

Scotty and I went to Simi Valley yesterday to pick up his latest purchase. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=988436. Dale, it was nice meeting you.

The general consensus was that we would have to go up & inland to find wind anyway so we packed a couple Moths and started driving. Driving thru L.A. sucked any enthusiasm we had for flying right out of us. Just wanting to get home, Scotty reluctantly agreed to check out Point Dume. After a couple of windless weeks in San Diego I was ready to climb the nearest hilltop and just throw a brick. Didn't have to...

The wind was around 280-300 @ >10 and peaked >20 as we were leaving. Had a BLAST playing in the bowl on the west side. Was able to slope the big hill behind us, sky out, and reenter the pattern at mach 1. I think we'll have to be pretty desperate to make that drive again. But at least we Got Grin for the long ride home and can add Point Dume to our lists.

Scotty, How'd the pics come out?

Thanks for the Map Mike,

I've been to point Dume twice and I thought you flew at the south end over the water. Never did have wind to even throw out but at least I know now.

Did you see how my new house is progressing - got to keep those contractors honest.

Well, ended up at Dave's beach about 2 ish. The wind was good, had to park across the street at the hotel, but got some good stick time.

Lot's of new faces, need to do some more Hurl races to hook the new guys.

Matin?

Today at Blossom

Blossom was great today! We showed up at around noon and flew the lightest stuff off and on while the wind cycled and then it became pretty consistent around 2:30 or so. There were 5 of us up there and then some other people showed up and we ended up having a huge combat furball going on right above the slope that lasted over an hour and a half There were like 8 or 10 planes going back and forth and hits were frequent. Very fun day.

Flew my Blizzard on the slope and discovered that it spins very nicely. Went up high and held it in a spin for a few seconds then I could release the stick and it kept spinning. Opposite rudder and a bit of power recovered it nicely.

Jon's wild wing flew great once we got the throws sorted out and Thomas' Combat Wings XR flew amazingly well. I am very pleased with how it turned out. 26.9 oz AUW and it flies in very light winds even... very fast and very stable, and from what I saw no tip stall tendency either. I would probably be willing to sell my Prairie Dog and buy an XR. The build was quick and easy and I bet I could make it lighter next time (I built the wing for Thomas).
