These seem like they should be pretty durable, considering their low flying weight. Having seen it, would you agree? I'm thinking it may be a decent 4 channel trainer if it's got a small prop or slow motor.

They are durable, but I wouldn't call it a trainer, they need to fly at a decent speed. I have an identical one I built that I've smacked a couple times, good thing about EPP foam, bit of CA and accelerator and it is fixed.
