Well guys on the field have been telling me to post this here so here ya go. Our local club has started a GWS warbird pylon series this spring and it has been growing. Here is the format:
The Course:
From pylon to pylon the distance is 300 feet (or 100 yards).
The heat consists of 7 laps and with an air start and countdown to the startline.
If a pylon is cut, a line judge calls out the plane and the pilot must immediatly recircle the cut pylon.
4 planes max to a heat.
The Planes:
Must be a GWS WWII Warbird.
No major modifications to the airframe such as fiberglassing or streamlining.
Must land and takeoff on landing gear.
Max speed is 40mph static. (rpm X pitch divided by 1056)
Our official meets are the last Sunday of the month. We currently have about 8 pilots in active status with about 2 to 3 in current construction of their racers. In December we will end the 2007 season and begin anew around April or May. The 40mph speed seems to be perfect for getting new pilots interested and involved. Our club is having a blast with it and it is really becoming organized and gaining more leverage with the club. Below are some of the pics from the program.
I started this thread to see if other clubs/organizations would want to pursue such a program, or if they already have one, they can post their info here. This would be a good way to discuss Pylon racing programs, motor/battery configurations and just to see what other clubs are doing out there. This is a fun and easy way to get introduced to the world of pylon racing, so post what you got and what you know.
