Where is Hartman Fiberglass Now?

Has anyone seen anything from Hartman Fiberglass lately? I wonder If He has stopped making boat hulls? I thought that Harbor Models was going to buy his molds.

I had the pleasure of talking to Mr. Hartman about his Delta Queen this past June when I was last in the States. I hope all is well & wish him a speedy recovery.

Jeff, I hope he'll be okay, considering he is in his 80's---.

This is all that I know of his condition for the monent.

Ya! with him being in the 80s and having so much health problems lately Im afraid we seen the last of Hartman fiberglass.
Unless someone buys his molds and takes over. At which I heard so many stories over Im sure somone will. And no not me! I tried to get the tug mold but the prices I was hearing is way out of my league.

Thats why I stored up a couple of tug kits for my self.

All:

Yesterday I received a call from Tom O'Dell with information that Dwight Hartman was In the ICU unit as shown below and had been there for some time. The situation apparently isn't good, as Tom was not able to get much information from the hospital. Dwight cannot have visitors.

Although the Club has sent Dwight a Get Well card, Tom thought that it would be appropriate for the Club members to individually also send him your wishes. Dwight is an Honorary Member of the Club and a long time supporter.

You may address your card to:

Dwight Hartman
Memorial Hospital ICU
2300 Edwards St.
Decatur, IL 62521

If you know of other Club members who are not receiving emails and might also want to send him a card, please pass this information on to them.

Jeff, that last bit of news about Dwight's condition is not very encouraging.

By the way, except for close family, someone in ICU is generally not allowed visitors for obvious reasons.

This is indeed bad news. Mr. Hartman is one in a million..a real legend in model making. I think for him to do the things he did for as long as he did is incredible. I believe that he is very close to 90 and has had trouble with, among other ailments, diabetes. To be such a prolific model maker with the ailments and advanced age is a testament to the man. Look at one of his catalogs and then remember that he did it all himself. They dont make many like that anymore.

Also, Longbike, how is Tom O'Dell ?

Dwight started on a Monterey hull for me a while back. I ordered it back in August and he was supposed to bring it with him to the Regatta. Since he was having problems with his leg and couldn't make it, he said he would bring it to the November meeting but he never showed. I did hear from Admiral Jim that Dwight had a stroke and had been in the ICU for a couple of months now.

What An Amazing Model Builder

Still working om my Douglas Gregg and I think of Dwight when I do.His little company in Ill turned out a first rate product that no Robbie,Dumas or anyone else could hope to duplacate.I have missed his great smile and welcome at his booth at Toledo the last few years.

When my tug is done sometime this spring I just might name it after him.

Nice post BobL, I think it would be a fitting tribute to the man if someone named one of his tugs after him. I really hope someone buys the molds and continues his fine work. It would be a shame for so many great models to become unavailable.

Longbike, maybe you could find a partner with some capital. You certainly have demonstated that you have the skills required.

Dwight doesn't have a website does he? I guess the only way to know his full line is to order a catalog.

No he doesnt, it would be nice it there was a website with all his offerings on it. If you go to the St Louis Admirals website and look on the gallery, you will see some of his models. I'll take a look and post which are his.

Bob L,
Sorry to say but Tom Odell allready name a tug after Dwight that he finished just before he got sick. But there's no reason you cant do one too!

Tim I thought about doing that but Dave at Harbor models told me he was going to buy the molds several years ago and his price was around $25,000 just for the tug mold. There's no way Im spending that much for some worn fiberglass molds.

Dwight did invite me to come and learn his ways of building the kits and that there wasnt anybody that really cared about learning it.
I told him I would love to come learn it from him but he lives to far for me to just visit on the weekends But I did say I could come stay up there for a weekend but it just never did happen with the baby here and in the process of buying a new house.

Oh Dwight does not have a web site have to call him.
