DonsRC Wicked EDF and Wicked EDF Extreme Motors

Two new EDF motors from DonsRC that mount directly in the Alfa EDF units, and XF fan units, and Hyperflow EDF units. A true 'plug and play' design that takes only a few seconds to install. Includes all required hardware to mount into the Alfa EDF unit. Simply tighten the two screws to mount the motor into the EDF housing, then thighten one screw to mount the rotor and you are ready to go.

Wicked EDF Extreme

KV:5400 rpm/volt
Weight as seen in photo: 67 grams
3mm shaft

Get 4S power with only a 3S lipo. That means lower flying weight and higher thrust to weight ratio.

3S lipo in Alfa with 5 blade rotor: 47,000 rpm, 40 amps, 420 watts
3S lipo in Alfa with 3 blade rotor: 53,000 rpm, 26 amps, 290 watts
4S lipo in Alfa with 3 blade rotor: 64,000 rpm, 38 amps, 530 watts
3S lipo in XF fan: 51,000 rpm, 30 amps, 330 watts
4S lipo in XF fan: 59,000 rpm, 41 amps, 540 watts
3S lipo Hyperflow fan : 45,000rpm, 38 amps, 400 watts
3S lipo GWS EDF 55: 43,000 rpm, 40 amps, 400 watts

Wicked EDF motor
KV: 4800 rpm/volt
Weight as seen in photo: 67 grams
3mm shaft

Lower KV allows more option for flying on 3S or rocket like performance on 4S.

3S lipo with Alfa 5 blade rotor: 43,000 rpm, 29 amps, 300 watts
4S lipo with Alfa 5 blade rotor: 53,000 rpm, 40 amps, 560 watts
3S lipo with Alfa 3 blade rotor: 47,000 rpm, 18 amps, 185 watts
4S lipo with Alfa 3 blade rotor: 59,000 rpm, 29 amps, 383 watts
3S lipo with Wattage Powerfan (3 blades): 40,000 rpm, 32 amps, 330 watts
3S lipo with Hyperflow fan: 43,000, 30 amps, 330 watts
4S lipo with Hyperflow fan: 52,000 rpm, 41 amps, 560 watts
3S lipo GWS EDF55: 41,000 rpm, 32 amps, 330 watts
4S lipo GWS EDF55: 50,000 rpm, 44 amps, 600 watts
3S lipo GWS EDF64: 40,000 rpm, 33 amps, 340 watts

Combine these motors with a DonsRC Pentium 40 amp ESC and you have a complete motor ESC package for only $100. No need to spend big $$$ on a Jeti Spin to make these motors run correctly. In fact these motors were tested with a Jeti spin 44 ESC an the rpm and amps were so close the difference is not worth mentioning. Great EDF performance does not have to cost big $$$$

Price is $60 ready to install.

Here is a video of my Alfa A-4 on its maiden flight with the Wicked EDF Extreme motor using a TP Extreme 3S 2200 lipo and the 5 blade alfa rotor. Best speed was 105mph!

I got two 4800kv motors from Don and can say only great things about those.
There is one thing that bothers me regarding use of adapters in fans with shorter mounting motor tube. For example xf fan, motor with adapter sticks out back too far and is supported only at the mounting plate by two screws, thats fine, but in case of harder landing weight of the motor or any other stress imposed onto the motor mounting plate will ripp it off or bend it and cause rotor to start rubbing duct wall.
There should be support at the rear of mounting tube like ring or something.

I haven't experienced this myself so far, just wanted to get second opinion from guys that use the setup.
This will be the case with GWS fans with weaker motor mount also.

I understand what you are saying but to date this not been an issue at least on the Alfa and XF fan. I have the new GWS fans coming and will check them out when they arrive. The shorter GWS may be fine now without any adapter. Or I may make a short GWS version of the adapter.

Don...
Question, what is the bolt hole spacing on the MOTOR housing, 16 & 17mm just like the adapter or do you use a single spacing on the housing?

TIA
Kevin~
