Ok a set of batteries will get charged. I'm not planning on bringing my hydro this time...but am bringing the "War Eagle" and cracker box boat "Claim Jumper".

Do you mean ghost hunting as in try to capture an image of Casper on film?

Part 1

MAN!!!! yesterday was not my day on the water!!! i had the new motor in the ww2 transport and the glitches appeared to be gone. i took the pinkney (transport) and cushing (dd) wanting to get some pics of them sailing together. the water was great and the wind was ok, perhaps a bit high for the high sides of the cushing. i placed the pinkney in the water first to see if the glitches would return. she ran well, if just a little low at the bow. the glitches were not a problem. i turned the controls over to my wife (it was her grandfather's ship) and went to get the cushing ready. the cushing was placed in the water and soon joined the pinkney for several pass bys. we kept the ships close to the bank. then the pinkney stopped in the water. i took the pinkney controls from my wife and handed her the controls to the cushing. after waving the radio around and playing with the throttle the pinkney began to get underway. it was at this time i looked up noticed that the cushing was in the middle of the pond heading away i called to my wife asking where she was going. apparently she was not watching the dd but rather what i was doing. she said something about not knowing and then a nirvana appeared in the scene closing quickly. before i could think the sailboat had t-boned the destroyer and i saw her snap to port and the whole superstructre roll right off the deck. i grabbed the controls and handed my wife the controls to the pinkney which was now underway. as i moved my new canoe away from the scene i saw the superstructure floating in the water. the thought entered my mind to get a tug out there and at that instant the remains slipped beneath the waves. as i guided the hull back to the bank, trying to grasp what was going on, i looked to my right and noticed the pinkney's bow against the wall. my wife had again been watching me and was at this point in a state of shock knowing what the dd meant to me and how much it had cost. after getting the canoe out of the water i went to the pinkney and noticed that her bow had been damaged and the aft gun platform was gone. she had plowed into the wall at a pretty good speed. all this within a couple minutes. i was numb. to complete the day i later twisted the prop shaft off my sv-27 after she was making some pretty good runs. sometimes you should just stay home. in my wife's defense i did not build floatation into the superstructure of the dd nor did i secure it to the hull. i had considered this but had not come up with a way to do it that would not have messed with the scale look. i also had not intended on being in the middle of the pond or being t-boned by a nirvana, i should have. after everyone left i went into the water of this "3 foot pond with some 6-8 foot holes" to try and recover the missing parts. about 5 feet from the wall i lost the bottom. though i have been scuba diving for 26 years with many certifications including instructor i have never been a real good swimmer and with shoes and jeans on it was going to be ugly. i kept going thinking maybe the bottom would come back to me but it didn't. after arriving at the bouy near the spot of the wreck i tried to slip below and touch the bottom but after a few attemps i couldn't feel a thing. i turned back to the bank. this was going to call for more drastic actions. 'operation blonde destruction' was being planned. success was a must!!

Sea Dog....I know it was a rough day for ya man. I'm glad you're still alive and able to tell about it. I thought I had some great videos of the ships but my new camera and I are jinxed when it comes to getting video of those ships. Either I run out of disc space or the thing is off when I think it is on and on when I think it is off. I did get some pretty good still shots though and will post them tomorrow with the ships log. My internet connection speed is horrible today at 50kbs. It will take something like 3-4 hours to upload a 4-5 minute video so that will have to wait till tomorrow too.

Here is one pic to hold ya over man.

We were in the Sunday paper again http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/...WS01/908230336 and I was put on the spot for the above interview. Thanks to Sailorman for being a good sport too.

Part 2

as i drove home i was making plans for a night recovery operation. scuba was a must. i was thinking that this type of water, being undisturbed, would offer at least 1 foot of visability with a good light and if i was lucky and stayed off the bottom maybe i would have 2 feet. the only bit of luck that day had been that the accident occured near one of the racing bouys so i had a decent mark. as i said i have been diving for 26 years. i was certified at naval training center san diego, not as a navy diver but the class was taught by navy divers. my wife was certified about 2 years ago and believe me it was nothing like what i went thru. her class was 4 weekends and mine was 3 months. after moving back here i became involved with law enforcement diving, bodies and evidence and such. i have spent many hours in water no sane diver would enter. so i felt this would be a cake walk. when doing an underwater search one of the most important things is to be able to have a point of referance. otherwise you could spend all your time searching the same area over and over. i decided that the best and quickest approach would be to place a spike at the bouy weights and run a line about 15 yards just to the left of the area where the parts went down and then do sweeps up and down the line, moving it to the right after the second sweep. i planned to mark the bouy end spike with chem sticks in case i lost the line so i could get back to my start point. if chem sticks wouldn't work i would take my strobe. i really didn't want to use the strobe as it would look like torpedos going off everytime it flashed. the last thing i needed was attention. i had to plan the op for a time when the park would be empty so i figured around 2200 hours would be good. after getting home i checked my scuba tanks finding that each one only had 500 pounds of air. so off to the scuba shop for a fill. arriving back at home with my fresh 3000 pounds of air i organized all my equipment and went over the planned dive trying to see if i was missing anything. after getting the gear together and going over the plan with my partner i rested for a couple of hours. we would depart at 2100 on 'operation blonde destruction'.....................................

Good luck with Operation Blonde Destruction tonight and wish you the best of luck. It's been a few years since I had gotten my certification though.
