Looking for reports of a larger F-14 MDC with simple profile

Hello.
I would like to know if someone has ever built and flown a F-14 MDC with swing wings at a larger scale than the original?
I am interested in building one, but I don't know up to where it could be worth to enlarge the size while keeping the simple profile and good flying characteristics...
I thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards.
Jean-Luc

Guys,
can you please help on deciding on a power system for my bird?
I have the choice of the following motors:
Emax 2210 1200kv 16a
Emax 2812 1650kv 15a
turnigy aerodrive 2826/10 1400kv 21a

any help would be great! im thinking a 25a esc if the turnigy would be the motor of choice, not sure on the battery though

Eagle 14 I built mine at 125% it has 42" length and 42" spread wing span. I use a Turnigy 3536/1300 with a 8.5"x6" APC Prop. Unlimited vertical and nice comfortable speed and flies great. I made it a semi scale full cockpit to hide the battery.

The canopy is the ugliest part. I am going to do a remod to make it more scale. But I'll try to post some shots later.

Here is my ugly canopy. Like I say I plan on a complete re-do shortly. I used the template for the profile version and made two and used them as sides and pulled them together at the top. then just traced out a top on a sheet of depron and fit it in the gaps. so it is triange shaped.
I want to do a complet top removal with a scale canopy similar to my Skyray.

I have the 100 & 125% size and for me the 125% flys much better, the extra wing area seems to be more stable in the air. Pictures and details are a few pages back

At our club meeting yesterday I was the only one who would fly. Everyone else was scared of the 15 kt crosswinds. But the F-14 hardly knew it was there. Very stable and fun to fly even in high winds. Makes for really slow landings. (vertical).

The 1st one looks OK and more than enough power.

2212 will scream

Mine was only 12-14 OZ depending on pak and so the rule of thumb
of 100watts per lb applys.

So a smaller one would be good too.

Thanks birdofplay, very much appreciated!

I already have the Turnigy in the first link so was hoping it would be ok without buying another!

So the Turnigy coupled with a 25a esc and a 9x4/4.7 prop would be ok on 2s? And a smaller prop on 3s... I'll see what 3cell Lipos I have and do some weighing tonight of her and see what she weighs.

Am i right in thinking that the only advantage over the 3cell to the 2cell is the flying time?

rhysduk, there are many factors that go into choosing the battery for a model. Generally, the choice of how many cells is based on the "voltage" required for the system (kv rating of the motor, propeller and rpm). The flight time is a result how many amps the power system draws and the milliamp (mah) rating of the battery. These two factors are interrelated to give you the power (watts) used by your system.

To get the same power from a 2S battery as a 3S battery, you will draw more amps. In the case where you have the same milliamp rating for each battery (e.g. 1300 mah), the 2S battery will result in shorter flying time than the 3S battery if you draw/use the same power (watts).

You also have another limiting factor on this plane, the size of the prop canyon. You will not be able to use anything larger than a 7" prop, and that's cutting it very close. The best setup for this plane is the motor in your second link with an APC 6X4E prop on 3S and a 30A ESC.

I disagree. The recommended prop for that 1400kv motor on 3S is a 7x4 prop. The same prop that I use on a 1450kv motor, and it works great.
