MDC F-14 plans and pics

Here's a new design I did for a simple profile F-14 with swing wings. The idea was to come up with a relatively simple swing-wing design that looked as close to scale as possible without the need for sanding or laser-cut wood parts. Everything is made from 6mm Depron except for a few pieces of 1/16 ply which are used for the control horns and motor mount and a few pieces of .035x.236 carbon strip for the spars. I cut and built mine in one evening and was flying the next day. I have attached pics and plans for anyone who wants to give it a go. Controls are elevons, throttle and sweep (4 ch).

BUILD LOG STARTS ON PAGE 7 OF THIS THREAD.

My setup is as follows:

Motor - Little Screamers Purple Peril (AXI 2208/26 would also be a good choice)
Prop - APC 7x4
ESC - CC 18
Batt - TP1320 3s
Servos - two HS-55 and one HS-65HB or similar for the sweep

MDC F-14 day three (3 min 32 sec)

F-14 wing setup (0 min 5 sec)

I glued everything with foam-safe CA. The wing pivots are Depron discs that are glued in place. I covered the wing roots and pivot holes with Scotch tape which acts as a bushing surface for the pivot. The sweep control rods are 1/16 steel wire with Z-bends to allow for alignment. The Elevon control rods are 3/32 carbon rods with nylon clevises glued on both ends. Flies great (doesn't everyone say that about their own designs?) CG is right at the Carbon center section stiffener. There is room for almost any size battery and CG is easy to adjust. Note the air inlet at the nose. All materials were purchased from RCfoam.com

MDC F-14 flight video

As requested, here is a quick video from this afternoon. Sorry for the low-light conditions but it gets dark early now that we're off DST.
Note the roll rate at full sweep - it literally rolls in the blink of an eye (-3:05 you'll see three sets of rolls). It's much slower with wings at half-sweep (-2:08). Also note the high-alpha - rock solid with the wings at half or no sweep. Hope you enjoy.

MDC F-14 flight vid (3 min 37 sec)

Cheers,
m

Wow......... just Wow.
So nice to see work like this now and again.

This is how my ideas of plans always look in my head but they never seen to turn out that way.

Will be building one of these.

One question.

How possible(easy) would it be to fit all the parts on a 18 in. wide pdf?
I have a printer/cutter but it only goes 24/ in wide. If this is to much of a pain don't sweat it as I can print the tiled one and tape them together.

Edited due to paper size.

Something like this?

Cheers,
Bill Segraves

[Edit: I could have sworn you originally asked for 22" width. You must have edited the request as I was producing the tiles. Here's the result for 18" paper, as well.]
