Recommend a good aviation non-fiction book...

Ok guys..

I am looking for some books to read while on the road..

I am almost done with the latest "swath" of books purchased and need some good recommendations..

I am currently reading A Lonely Kind of War: Forward Air Controller - Vietnam by Marshall Harrison.. It's a great book so far..

I am into WW2 and Vietnam air war stuff, Vietnam ground troop - seal, LLRP type stuff..

I have been thinking about reading a book or two on WW1 airwar stuff.. Not sure though..

Pegasus Bridge by Stephen Ambrose.

Although it's more than just flying, the skill and ability to get those gliders down where they did is amazing. Furthermore, if you ever get to Normandy and see the site, you'll be even more amazed that they were able to land where they did.

Tumult in the Clouds, the story of James Goodson. From RAF to the Eagle Squad to P-51s and P-47. Got the rep of "King of the Strafers".

The Mammoth Book of Fighter Pilots, Eye witness accounts of air combat from WW1 to modern day.

Thumbing over this one now, 4th editon of Model Aircraft Aerodynamics by Martin Simons. TONS of tech data. Makes your head hurt lol.

Well there's also his "All but the flack" story of getting the 3 B-17s to England to film "the war Lover"

FLYBOYS by James Bradley

This has nothing to do with the recent movie of the same name. WWII Pacific theater. A thought provoking read.

Yeh, Flyboys is a great book.. It is also a great movie..

I wound up buying "Bury Us Upside Down" about some F-100 pilots..

I think we need to have a "book" swap here..

I've got tons of books I'd much rather trade for a book than sell..

I cannot part with that one. I found it and several other WWII Naval Aviation books in my Fathers library after he passed. He was an F6F mechanic during the Big One but never spoke much about it. Another one that is a bit drier than Flyboys is "The First Hellcat Ace" by Cdr. Hamilton McWhorter III.

Good first-person accounts:
"When Thunder Rolled", Ed Rasimus' account of flying F-105's and F-4's in Vietnam
"A Lonely Kind of War", Marshall Harrison's experiences as a FAC in Vietnam
"Flying the Edge", George Wilson: A Washington Post reporter attends Navy Test Pilot School in the mid 1990's
"Hornets over Kuwait" Jay Stout: Marine Hornet ops in DS 1.

Nauga,
literally

I've got some great coffee table books about aviation. Roy Conyers Nesbit's "An Illustrated History of the RAF" is a good one. Lots of stuff in there. "Flight: 100 Years of Aviation" is a big one published by DK Books. Don't know the author though.
